I believe that is the way it is threaded in the manual. You can do it either way. If you have some slicker thread, the way you mentioned would be better if the thread is slipping out of the discs. Thanks!

That audible click tells you that the bobbin is locked in place. If you hold the clip while putting the bobbin case in, you may not lock it in place. If it is not locked in place, and spins, you risk striking the bobbin case with the needle, in turn damaging it or even knocking the machine out of time. Was that a run on sentence? :)

Makes perfect sense, might be why I have had to adjust my timing on my machine so often, Incorrect way of installing the bobbin. I am so very glad I ran across this video, I have always held the wing on that bobbin case since the day I could remember I sewn on all my machines, and now explains the timing issues that I have ran across,. I will say, having to adjust the timing was a big curve ball on our industrial heads, not like we can throw it in a box and ups it off to the next town. Owning an industrial machine is a big responsibility and a lot has to be learned to operate them, I am always continuing my education and it is not until recently that new videos have been popping up with the Juki 1181. So, trust me when I tell you, please continue making these videos. They are more then helpful. I thank you again graciously.

Try removing the black plastic umbrella like piece in your oil pan. Sew after it is removed. If it works OK wehen that is removed then you know the problem is the knee lift setup. Also since the hand lifter on the machine only lifts a tiny amount, make sure it is in the down position. Sounds simple, but it happens. It sounds like your tension is released.

Hey Kim, how are you doing? I have your problem for a long time.... i found out the thread take up has a lot to do with it. Refer the instructional manual. And also it depend what kind of material you are sewing. Make sure try to understand the thread take up spring by turning the screw to right or left it determines the amount of top tread sewing on the fabric. If it’s too much it would loop the bottom of the fabric. Try to thread the machine the right way. I have seen a lot of video , I haven’t seen anyone thread the machine according to the instructional manual. Juki 1181n is a truly a mechanical machine. You have to set everything based on the instructional manual. Make sure you are using the right needle that goes to the thread you are sewing. Take your time going through the manual. good luck.
