Yes, it was magical. I was simultaneously grinning from ear to ear AND tearing up. I'm happy to say that I teach youth musical theatre and all of my 4th, 5th & 6th grade students love her, know her and respect her technique! A parent expressed gratitude to me when they sent me a text message saying "My (11 year old) kid is singing "Wouldn't it be Loverly in the Shower." Thank You! Many children's fave singer is Beyonce or Taylor Swift. Many of my students will say Julie Andrews.

Well, did you hear when he said that she performed this on Broadway? That means during that time, at least twice and sometimes three times a day. She was trying to be modest. But I’m sure she knows this better than the back of her hand.

After speaking for several minutes, not even a drink of water or a beverage to clear her throat, seated with arm's crossed in front of her diaphragm. I have to wonder if that’s why she didn’t get the role in the movie. She was up for the role in the movie and they didn’t go with her. I listened to this video (always wondered how her “bad English” would sound) and her incorrect English still somehow sounds flawless, they probably needed her to sound worse
@brontec4735
@brontec4735 2 жыл бұрын
@@elizacarrie7433 i know it’s a long time after, but no that’s not why she didn’t get the part. Producers said she didn’t have a “movie face” (of course Rex Harrison being a man didn’t need that “movie face”…) and that she wasn’t well known enough to bring enough audience, so they went with Audrey Hepburn. Funny enough, she ended up with her first big role that year with Mary Poppins and won the Oscar opposite to Hepburn being nominated for My Fair Lady as well the same year

Dick is a fascinating host because he's the opposite of modern talk show hosts. Modern hosts try to make themselves part of the entertainment, and their outgoingness often makes the guest more shy. Dick was shy himself, but that actually made the guests feel more comfortable and come out of their shells more, so he often got to see sides of people's personalities that you wouldn't see elsewhere. There's a guy named Graham Bensinger who has a KZfaq channel that is the same way.

@@annienayland45 First of all, I wasn't aware that she was named a Dame before watching the video. It's not because i didn't call her Dame Julie Andrews that i don't have respect for her. Mind your own business.

Audrey tried to convince the people behind the movie to give the role to Julie but people think she wanted the role for herself. She knew she couldn’t sing the part, so she wanted Julie to play Eliza.

Audrey Hepburn told Julie she didn’t have the heart to turn it down after they told her that if she wasn’t gonna do it their next option was Elizabeth Taylor.... giving it to Julie was not an option for them. I am in awe of what an incredibly amazing performer she is after watching her on Victor Victoria. That was an amazing experience fir me, mind blowing. JL Warner didn’t pick her. But clearly things worked out fir her. Her SOM & Mary Poppins among others are award winning classics,

It's quite sad behind the reason why they passed over Julie. It was because she was still pretty green and unknown. Talented but had no star power yet. But every cloud has a silver lining. Julie's silver lining was Mary Poppins. Audrey was in her prime at that time.
