This has gotta be one of my faves from the album- the warm chords that feel like a kind hug, the almost twangy guitar part between the verses, the low, pulsing synth in the second verse, the album title lyrics, and that bit where the drums kick in??? Ugh her mind 🤌🤌

I sent Julien these songs asked her to record them. That’s my handwriting!

This song is the perfect example of Julien Baker staying true to her style and still expanding it. I love it.

I can see myself inside your bloodshot eyes Wondering if you can see yourself in mine Or do you just see me? And of me what you want to see? Middle of the night, all I can see are stars Pulled 'em from my eyes and your ex-lover's arms Throw hook after hook, and if I were you After all that I did, I'd have done it to me, too Isn't like I did it on purpose I just forget the second I learned it Everything I get, I deserve You whisper to me, "Don't you like it when it hurts?" (oh, mhmm) Five days out from the initial event It takes two kinds of pills to uncleanch my fists It's too kind of you to say you can help But there's no one around who can save me from myself Isn't like I do this on purpose I just forget the second I learned it Looking for little oblivions I'd do anything knowing you would forgive me Oh, there is no glory in love Only the gore of our hearts Oh, let it come for my throat Take me and tear me apart Ooh, there is no glory in love Only the gore of our hearts Ooh, let it come for my throat Take me and tear me apart Drag me away in the dark Take me and tear me apart

this song has such an energy and such a fire behind it when she plays it live in the album version just comes off weak. all of the great guitar stuff from her live performances wasn’t play it on the album and what little bit was it’s so far back in the mix it may as well not even be there. super bummed
@flololo Жыл бұрын
i don't think "weak" is the right word. the album version just sounds softer/more mellow, i'd say. which version you prefer is just a matter of taste, not quality. i for one like the album version better, precisely because of the softer sound. i don't mean to invalidate your feelings, i understand where you're coming from, i just wanted to point out that distinction. no version is either better or worse than the other, they're just different.

Obvious talent BUT the song is like walking on a treadmill. It finishes where it starts. No development sonically or lyrically. The TikTok that brought us here at least featured a raucous Telecaster riff that is absent in this mix. HUGE talent here muted by greatly flawed arrangement and lack of dynamics.

You can always go back and listen to whatever album you love the most. Something new doesn’t negate it nor should an artist be doomed to repeat the same album over and over and over for your pleasure
