2 жыл бұрынIn this video the creator of Mushroom Wonderland, VP of the Kitsap Peninsula Mycological Society takes us on a journey into the forest of the Pacific Northwest to identify several wild mushrooms, collect some choice edible wild Golden Chanterelles, and take them with to the annual club picnic for the Kitsap Peninsula Mycological Society where a very learned and hilarious chef, Dave Nelson from Gig Harbor, cooks them and a bevvy of other gourmet mushrooms into a beautiful puree soup.
Aaron will show you the correct habitat to find Chanterelles in the middle of summer in Washington state. After finding a lot he will help to see and name all of the identifying characteristics as well as a couple potential look-a-likes.
Dave gives us the details on how to seer mushrooms to a perfect golden brown and blend them into a prize winning soup.

When I was a kid 40 plus yrs ago, I remember the KPMS would have a yearly exhibit at Westside Improvement Club in Navy Yard City. They would fry up Chanterelles in butter! Good times! That's what got me interested in mushrooms! I live on the Olympic Peninsula now so I don't know if they still do that.

Cool! I was just a kid but I also remember going to the west side imporvment club!! Now our annual mushroom show is usually held at the Olympic College or Kitsap Fairgrounds. Still cooking up chanterelles! 🍄🤙

The little chantrells are cute as a button! Nice cooking demo. In NW Pa I've been finding oysters and chickens.Not much else,too dry. Happy foraging!

I found a patch of those tigers eye the other day and the species I found seemed to be a lot more fibrous on top and shined really cool in the light

I believe the second mycotrophic plant is currently called Monotropa hypopitys, Pinesap. Indeed an indicator of Tricholoma species. I have also found them in Matsutake patches along with Allotropa.

I was in Florida last week and found mushrooms. I don't know what they were, but a few were boleets, red cap not very big. Just surprised to see mushrooms in the heat, but it was the rainy season. I rained pretty hard every day fthanks for the video, didn't make it to the picnic, looks like a good time.

Thanks for this, good cooking tips. I live in Bellingham and it's been so dry here I couldn't find anything this summer. I guess you get a lot more moisture there during the summer than we do?

When you say candy cane type of plants that are also mycotrophic are you talking about ghost pipes the clear no chlorophyll producing little flowers?
