David Lee Roth was certainly impressive when he "jumped" around the stage. He is a martial artist, has been training in kenjutsu since he was twelve years old, and also practices kenpō and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

I saw them in concert WAY back in 1984 and I can tell you this much... How they are / were in this video is exactly how they are / were in concert. They were dope. Michael Jackson and Edward Van Halen are the reasons how and why I got into Rock music.

Eddie revolutionized how a guitar could be played. Way ahead of his time when it came to what a person could do with it and what sounds could come out of it. One of my top five favorite concerts I've seen.

This highlights how everyone in the 80's was just trying to look like Diamond Dave, and sound like Eddie Van Halen. Nobody gives this band the credit they deserve for starting a decade of Hair Bands.

Glad you mentioned right away their energy. In their early years while rock was dominated by a lot of metal, they were more Hard Rock, but with the underlying aura which was a good time, chill out and party type of music. So much to get into if you drive into that rabbit hole. Till 1984 fronted by David Lee Roth, 84 into the 90s with Sammy Hagar fronting, to having Eddie's son join the band later. There's something for everyone's taste.

I think this has David Lee Roth trying to vamp his best stud guy rock star bit and he keeps noticing Eddie doing his cute guy bit and killing it; beating David Lee. "Aaaah. I might as well jump!" But I'm a guy. I may be wrong. Eddie is killing it on the keyboards here too. This is my favorite Van Halen song. You've got to do Hot for Teacher.

I think I speak for many who grew up in this era when I say that it's easy to get sad/depressed thinking about how good things were compared to these days. It's not about a nostalgic "good ole' days" as much as it's about a measurable difference in how good things were as a society compared to now. Mostly due to govt interference and the social engineering going on today.

Yeah, this video looked fun & carefree... but Van Halen in 1983/ '84 were in turmoil. The singer David Lee Roth didn't like keyboards at the time and refused to do the song in 1981... but Eddie Van Halen insisted that it be recorded in '83. So Roth wrote the lyrics about allegedly taunting someone on a ledge, trying to take his own life to, "Go ahead, Jump!" 😂 And it became a #1 single! 😯 Van Halen 's '1984' album sold 10 million copies in the US... 3 MTV singles... sold out world tour... but the band was falling apart. On stage, every member played longer solos... Roth was drinking so much he couldn't sing much. In 1985, David Lee Roth split from Van Halen after recording a solo EP 'Crazy from the heat'... hoping to be a movie star. Van Halen got singer Sammy Hagar to replace Roth in 1986 and scored a #1 album - '5150'... while Roth released his full solo album "Eat 'em and smile".
