Jumping jewels - Dakota 15th September 1963
Guitar group The Jumping Jewels from The Hague was based on the Fender Stratocaster sound of The Shadows . Particularly thanks to their manager Herman Batelaan , the group managed to achieve international status with its professional approach. With their singer Johnny Lion (John van Leeuwarden) they had a huge success in the Netherlands in the period 1961-1965. Wild scenes often played out in the halls with hysterical fans.
In addition to Lion, the line-up consisted of Hans van Eijk (solo guitar), Tjibbe Veeloo (rhythm guitar), Joop Oonk (bass guitar), Frits Tamminga (drums). The latter was replaced in 1963 by Cees Kranenburg Jr.
