They say ‘imitation is the sincerest form of flattery’. So, although I don’t have any scraps of wonderful Gelli print papers that I made myself, I hope to emulate your style/idea for day 11 of #junkjournaljuly by creating a sample page of some exquisite handmade, mostly Japanese papers, that I tend to hold too precious and over time forget to use because they are tucked away that will now provide me a visual reminder of what is in my stash. I have also had the experience (but as the potential recipient) of expecting a highly unique and elaborately thought out happy mail package from overseas but that never arrived. Shout out to #theartycraftytart who went to great expense to deliver that to me but to no avail 💕😢.

I was surprised with what a difference it made when you began adding the thinner strips on top of the rectangles. Not only was it more pleasing to the eye, but knowing your story-for me-it connected the experiences you had with the different pieces of art at the different times you created them. It made my heart happy. I know it sounds mushy, but it touched me emotionally, and that was surprising. Maybe it would be good for me to take small pieces from my different art projects and connect them. It’s like a metaphor for life experiences. Somehow in the end, although they were very different and occurred at different times, they are all connected. ❤ (Don’t know if this makes sense.)

This was so relaxing and has totally inspired me. Thank you.

Such a timely post. I am a Mixed Media artist and a Junk Journalist that does not use much digital stuff. I am slowly moving my art supplies to my new home in Mexico … 2 large suitcases at a time. Watercolors, acrylics, and watercolor paper came first, but I forgot to bring any ephemera, magazines, book pages, etc. I had a very difficult time trying to build layers without them. Just returned from trip #2. Secondary mediums like ink, fluid acrylics, matte medium, stamp, and stencils took precedence over ephemera, painty papers, and all of my good scraps. But you betcha I managed to squeeze enough in get my “no ephemera” jitters calmed down 😂. But when I looked at the mountain of papers, books, antique ledger papers, foreign newspapers ……..I was horrified to realize that I might have a slight collection issue! Your idea might be the thing to help me release some back into the wild. I used to belong to a Flowish group. Maybe time to re-up again 🙂 Edited to add: I completely forgot about my entire world of oil painting stuff. AND Pastels - both Pan Pastels and hard and soft pastels 🤣🤣🤣

Just found you today, and your journal is gorgeous! I love the cover! Do you have a video on how to make one like it? I once had a postcard that my sister mailed to me during her trip to Germany, and it took me 2 years to finally get it! Funny how that works sometimes…. I took a screenshot of your mosaic page to help me remember it. I have an ongoing bookmark project for our local library, that I make from food packaging and decorate with basically whatever I have on hand. I think your mosaic idea would work really well for making beautiful bookmarks, plus it would be a great way to use up a lot of these beautiful scraps, so that others could enjoy them too!
