As a young teen I loved building WW2 aircraft kits. Can't even count how many I had. The Stuka was my favorite. Toward the end of my hobby teen years I had so many extra parts from so many kits in a box that I was able to custom build my own airplane designs from imagination. Haven't touched a model kit in 40 years but vids like this spark the desire to do one more, a 1/32 scale stuka.

Very nice build; thx for your video! I agree with your conclusion regarding too much "chipping." RLM paints and painting derectives were among the very best in WWII, providing the Luftwaffe with better chipping & fading resistance than any other nation. Except for the "Anton" & "B-1" variants, which used "narrow" chord metal propellers, all later Stuka variants used wider chord wood props. These propellers had a linen-type fabric fused to the blades' outer surfaces, and then a very narrow brass protective strip screwed onto each blades' leading edge, before final paint. So, these wood props would not exhibit any "silver" metal chipping or finish wear, such as would be seen on aluminum or steel prop blades. Additionally, all Axis countries had to extremely conserve their strategic alloying metals, so their aircraft exhaust manifolds were manufactured with very little/no chromium or nickel content. This was a "luxury" only US & GB enjoyed, meaning "rust" corrosion was seldom in evidence on their manifolds. I do think there is a current fad in the model world of overdoing wear and grime. I believe in the adage: "less is more". Most aircraft did NOT look as if they flew nonstop through sandstorms, and then burning oilfields, covering them with grime & wear from wingtip to wingtip. : )

When the Revell kit came out in the 1970's it was the state of the art for the time. I built the one in the 70's that had the snake that ran the entire length of the fuselage. It really was not bad a kit at all. You really can't compare the two. I could take that old Revell kit and with scratch building, out do that Trumpeter kit by a country mile. But most people are assemblers and not builders and don't want to put that much effort into a model.

You should use a sponge when doing chipping. Look at the belly of the plane. All the chips look the same. All of them. And you should be mindful of places that would chip. You have chips in places that wouldn't normally chip and they are so spread apart, it looks like a pattern.

Nice chipping technique, but indeed little overdone. Especially considering the plane is otherwise very clean, such heavy chipping would probably look better on a plane with more smudges, dust deposits etc. Also in such big scale it would be better instead of using decals to use masks and have at least insignias and letters painted. Big decals never look good and German insignias are rather easy to airbrush even in 1/48, making it super easy in 1/32. You can even buy precut masks for this model and they are cheaper than decals. And one last thing, you haven't weathered bombs at all and those would be perfect target for heavy chipping and weathering, because in real world their rust protection was generally minimal and storage conditions on field airfields questionable at best. There is a lot of WWII era pictures showing heavily worn out bombs being used.

@janehill9764

the amount of chipping that you have produced could only come if the aircraft had been engaged in operations over salt water for extended periods of time. this would make sense if the aircraft was flying in the mediterranean or over Britain. but you've built an eastern front machine. so where could this aircraft get such chipping? was it based in Murmansk, or the northern front along withJG 5 Eismeer?or in Norway? i dont think so. stuka operations were in central russia...perhaps the aircraft was operating over the crimea? it would have to be,.. but even then, stukas were not flying much over the Black Sea or Caspian sea... i think that you have made a mistake here... repaint the model and reduce trhe chps by 90%... nevertheless, you have created a museum piece...

My first impression: the color flaking is completely exaggerated. Color RLM 71 was more a greyish green, not olive as with your model. The exhaust stubs are clearly too small. The color of the SC 1000 bomb is too dark, it should be pale blue RLM 65, not that fantasy color...
