I never hear anyone bring up that the original can of shaving cream in JP1 only had enough coolant to last 48 hours, so unless that can was recovered in 2 days the embryos inside would have been non viable. And in a series about bringing dinosaurs back to life, believing that can was dug from the mud by anyone in time to be useful is a bridge too far.

This last Jurassic Park I think successfully overcame the problem all the sequels have faced if only briefly. The problem of how do you instill wonder from seeing dinosaurs after seeing then is normalized? I think they accomplished instilling that when Alan and Chris Prats character are working together to tame a baby velocitaptor and you see Alan's amazement in his eyes. The sense of wonder can come from being able to coexist with and bond with nature, with being able to tame these beasts.

Tbh as an indigenous American it makes me queasy lol b/c so often were embarrassing stereotypes on film and exactly that voice James & Maso mentioned which felt so gratifying to hear them get it. The bit with the locusts not eating BioSyn crops is actually more realistic than you might think. The concept seems to come directly from the real world example of when Monsanto sold genetically modified seeds that were resistant to their powerful insecticides and then the insecticides drifted onto the fields of smaller individually owned farms and devastated the crops of those who didn't buy their seeds from Monsanto. Since so much farmland is corporately owned, individual farmers can really struggle to have their voices heard, so while rival corporations might collect evidence against BioSyn it's not that unrealistic that the small family owned farm that Dr. Sattler visits would be struggling to get the word out.

53:53 Mason's take on crunching the numbers for the danger of releasing the dinosaurs is why I was so perplexed by the trailers. Every trailer has Ian Malcom pontificating that we were going to go extinct...how many dinosaurs were released? 40? 400? 1000? I mean we consider animals deeply endangered at those numbers. These aren't fantasy creatures--they seem quite susceptible to physical assault. Humans are quite violent. We could easily kill off an aggressive species that large. I mean in the major cheese movie Reign of Fire they were working with dragons and threw in a bunch of extra caveats on why those overran the world. It makes sense to me that the dino-apocalyse angle was a red herring to hype people up given no one would be excited for a "Technically it's still Jurassic World Because These Big Bugs are Super Old!"

@@ThreadBomb Yes and no. Yes, it'd be super easy to just say that and that's get at least a partial pass because movies are fiction. There is the snag that the 2nd movie had a subplot about hunting them, and Fallen Kingdom where they were first noted to be a silly weapon you'd think "and we made the hide grow like [enter fantastical bulletproof animal here]" would have been thrown in. No, because it's a big animal. it still needs time to get big. Maybe the Compsognathus could have that trait and swell in population like invasive iguanas or boas do. But bigger creatures also need bigger food sources. And we have ammunition that can pierce body armor, heck that can pierce armored vehicles in some cases. Mythical dragons and Matthew McConaughey get a pass. Everyone else has to earn it.

Yeah, I think everyone owes Rise of Skywalker an apology now. Say what you want about that film but at least that had good acting, good characters, good cinematography, good action, good effects, and it didn't just flat out lie to it's audience, it promised Palpatine and we got Palpatine. Jurassic World Dominion promised dinosaurs living among humans and instead we got GIANT BUGS..... Colin Trevorow is an inept bait & switch hack who at this point I honestly just believe got lucky with Jurassic World and all the success for it just went to his head.

Neil Gaiman's Sandman started in 1989, but Vertigo didn't exist until 1993. It was created so DC had a place for its Suggested for Mature Readers titles. (It was weird seeing Sandman, Watchmen etc. advertised in regular kiddie titles in the 80s.) Fun fact: Death: The High Cost of Living was the first official Vertigo title.

1:17:57 I've been saying it for years, a Dinotopia movie. If you're unfamiliar Dinotopia is a series of books about 2 brothers who shipwreck on a lost island where dinosaurs and humans live in harmony together. The dinosaurs talk so that could be a big pill to swallow but I still say it could make some great movies. There was also a series made in the early 2000's but it was so awful only 6 of the 13 episodes aired before it was cancelled 😂 Carvan of garbage potential there🤣 the books are great though.

The Jurassic series have entirely been about themes of parenthood. It was never about dinosaurs at all. They are just a vehicle it flirts with to get the story moving. Similar to the Terminator films flirting with time travel but they are not about it. Dominion with Maisie is the only other film since the original to really stick that landing. Fallen Kingdom really gave me the shits because the only thing that film does bring to the table of its own is Maisie being a clone and it did nothing with it in regards to that overall parental theme of these films. I'm so fucking glad Dominion actually went in to that the way it did. I thought it was going to ignore it completely for dumb arse dinosaur action sequences with no substance like Fallen Kingdom did but it totally dialed that back. I really enjoyed Dominion a lot.

Black Adam is gonna be a big nail in the coffin for the DCEU. It looks absurdly bad. The only plus side is the Rock

So James hates Star Wars & Jared Leto, Mason hates Jurassic Parks...and they both hate Mark Wahlberg. Is that it ?

You guys are forgetting other film makers are putting dinosaurs in their films... how could you forget the amazing and critically acclaimed film, the velocipastor?

Duke Nukem? Wow. What a throwback. I remember sitting on the computer at my parents business, giving dollars to strippers and I was like 10 years old!

Obi Wan is a good, but not great, show. None of it's problems is the actress or character of Reva. To me all of the problems are just little things. A small child running from (and not being caught) by 3 grown men for way too long, Leia is overwritten (she can be very advanced for a child but they took it too far that it broke my suspension of disbelief) and other little things like that. Plus it feels like the episodes should be longer but we're cut down. But overall I'm enjoying it. Solid 8/10
