I'm not sure how you guys do this but I don't rename my video's. with the numbers. I can put them in the correct order. Do you rename your video clips? I usually don't.

If they are video files that you intend to keep for your own archival purposes, it is probably best to rename them to some that makes sense to the human brain. For example, I tend to rename everything with a chronological file name but for video files I also add a brief description. This could result in something like "2024-02-14 Valentine's Day at Grandma's" rather than "GH01456918". Now when you have more than one clip before you render in DaVinci, I have suggested to Ken to make a copy first and keep the original in an archive folder and then put the copy in a project folder for use in DaVinci. Ken has a habit of renaming files or moving them after he already started using the file in DaVinci. When he would start up that project again, DaVinci would complain that it couldn't find that file. So to answer your question, I would rename first and then render in DaVinci. In that manner, if you ever load up that project 6 months later, DaVinci should be able to find those original files. Does the GoPro save the clips with some sort of time code in the file name or is it just a random number?

Thanks for your reply Brian, Umm to answer your last question 1st, file name no time code example of a few like yesterday's 024316, 014316. 2nd thing If I rename them before putting them into Davinci there are out of order. I need a few more drives cause if I do it the way you suggested with 3 different folders. I save all my video's before edit and the edited video. That in it's self is making a mess out of my video's folder on my computer. I need to get a few hard drives. 2 20TB hard drives is what I want but reality says too expensive. Got to do something my video's folder is getting full. 300 some gigs of video's including about 10 movies from Darren.
