New episode of "Just Another Day in Paradise" featuring the replacement recommendations for our new sails by Doyle BVI in the British Virgin Islands, and Doyle Caribbean, the corporate headquarters in Barbados!
I visit Barbados in this episode to experience the manufacturing process of our new sails, and have some fun along the way while exploring Barbados and even enjoying some of the World Championships during the regatta that was hosted by Barbados this year!
Cheers,
Captain Rick

Cannot imagine how many of your vids I have watched in the past two or three weeks, but I am impressed with the quality of narration and background music picks on the narrated ones. You have an excellent voice for narration and it is well scripted with no pauses, duhs, or other wasted sounds. The live audio ones are good also. I am not a boat or water person, but you are starting to make me one. Good brief education on sailmaking, thanks.

That was great, I'm still in the learning and dreaming stage, so this refit series is great to inform people like me about some of the in's and outs of getting a boat up and ready to sail.

Thanks for the video! Those Doyle sails look good, and thanks for the Doyle loft tour. I checked out Doyle here in the SF bay area (as well as the other local lofts). I may have used them if I was able to tour their facility. I'll hoist my new (first!) sails for the first time next weekend!

Perfect. Looking into a Doyle refit myself. Now I see WHY the Doyle sails are more expensive...You get what you pay for. I had no idea that they lined the the stack pack with sail cloth, no idea about the engineering behind the leech adjustment, and no idea about the 5 year warranty and international support. Doyle should link YOU to their website for all of the free advertising. I always look forward to your episodes but i'm really excited about the canvas and electrical system upgrades coming around in the near future. I'm not going to do anything to my boat until I see how it's done. Cheers.

Very Informative!! I Absolutely Love Boating Also. My Birthday Is March 11. Lol.. Unfortunately I Have to stick to My Powered 30 Ft Cabin Cruiser for now, due to Just simply Not Enough Time to Even Consider Sailing at this point in my life. Your Living a Beautiful Dream Rick. Boats, UAV'S, Traveling, living on the Water, "Beautiful BLUE water" at that, AutoCAD;)!!! It's Like the OLD Beer Commercial use to say, "Ya know Guys....., it Doesn't Get any Better than This"!!!! Have Fun, and Happy Sailing My Friend!!! God Bless.

Awesome video Capt'n Rick! You may have had the best rum on earth, if you ask me as Mount Gay's claim to fame is the oldest distillery operating 1703. I used to enjoy their Extra Old blend before they changed it to XO which tastes good but doesn't have the same effect, like the 30yr old blend has. I hope you get to have enough of that bottle to experience this effect, which for me explains the reputation of the pirates. Looking forward to the next video of the installation of those wicked new Doyle sails! Congrats.

Yes I know, it's the high-output alternators, they shed soot like crazy and make a huge mess in there... will be part of a cleanup project for down-island when we have more time, unless we find a replacement option in the meantime. And thanks for your comment, and for watching! :)

Ahhhh the Lady's got some new Drapes. Speaking of Renewable Alternative Energy, have windspike wind turbines gained popularity in the Islands? these are vertical turbines not like the big windmills they may be quite an asset considering the almost constant wind.
@SailingSophisticatedLady
@SailingSophisticatedLady 8 жыл бұрын
Any wind generator is better than none for sure, but have only ever seen one vertical one down here and it was experimental.. and VERY big for the boat! We are very happy with our Eclectic D400, extremely quiet and very powerful even in light winds... will likely replace our 6 year old one with a brand new one before venturing off on our next long adventure! :)

Rick Moore Since it is just going to be the two of us, we went with the PowerSurvivor 40. It's the same the LeaLea team used for several crossings, and Chuck tells me it has worked flawlessly. Doesn't draw a lot of current, so the solar will be able to keep up with it. What's yours?
@SailingSophisticatedLady
@SailingSophisticatedLady 8 жыл бұрын
We haven't decided on one yet, but will look for something very efficient to run off 12Vdc that will give us about 30-40 gallons per day on average to keep up with 4-5 people, and cleaning scuba gear, etc.

+Rick Moore, Noticed in your video that your new drone footage is being shot with a DJI drone. What happened to the Mariner? What caused you to make the switch to DJI (not water proof)? Has the non-waterproof drone made a difference in how you shoot your vids? I had high hopes for the Mariner, just curious to hear your take.

Need to kill unnecessary background music. I could barely hear what Bob was saying through the din. Ask yourselves what the constant droning white noise music really does for the video.

I've done it both ways, and without it becomes very monotonous listening to long amounts of talking without anything to soften it up a bit... boils down to "you can't please all the people all the time". But having said that, we have just invested in some new microphones that will improve on that problem dramatically in near future... so stay tuned, and thanks for watching! :)

Sounds nice! I really do think though, that the first sailing channel to do away with music all together is going to win the internet. It seems to me that the inherent quiet and solitude of sailing is one of it's biggest draws and we can't experience that on our end with a soundtrack. Sorry to push my agenda here, I do feel a bit silly but still adamant.
