My grandfather used to make this for breakfast. With Eggs, Kielbasa and biscuits. I would put ketchup on the potatoes. So good. I miss you Papa.

I love fried potatoes and onions. I make the dish pretty often. I use seasoned salt though.

In germany we call this dish ,Bratkartoffeln‘ which means fried potatos. Add some smoked bacon or ham stripes or put a fried egg on top with some pickles on the side. Simply delicious.

Right! created in Europe through multiple countries! but America wants to claim the rights to every food in the world. Funny thing is there is literally not a single thing of food that is originally American except for maybe acorn tortillas and deer meat from native Americans 😉

My grandma use to make that back in the 80s. She called it smothered potatoes (included smoked sausages) We are it over rice.

Ah, I was looking for this. My mama called it smothered potatoes, and we didn't get fancy, it was just potatoes and onions fried in fat with salt and pepper. Nothing deeper than that.

Grew up eating home fries with onions, with salt, pepper and rosemary, but without pre- boiling. The sherry vinegar sounds tasty, cant imagine the mayo. I'd add a fried egg.

This is a HEAVENLY dish, my Grandma used to make it (I don't recall her saying it had a name though) and if we were REALLY LUCKY she'd use duck fat instead of butter❣️🥰

My mom would make this for breakfast (normally breakfast for dinner)! She would cook kielbasa, onions, and green peppers all together in one skillet and put a topper on it until the potatoes were nice and pan fried! I can't wait to make it for my own kids. ❤

I’ve never heard of that term. I was born and raised in NC. Must be different cultures and terms within towns and cities in NC. I knew them simply as fried potatoes. Or fried taters.

My family has called it fried taters and onions..try mixing the butter with bacon grease, ..that's what we've been doin since at LEAST folks came out west!! Lol. I made them at least 4 times a week for my family .

These are excellent but small tip; if you let them properly develop a crust so do them in small batches they become super crispy it’s great. And if you wan’t to make the German version of this; add some bacon. Delicious!

There are an spanish recipe very similar to this one called Patatas a lo Pobre. They doesn't have vinegar but it has peppers, generally green and red ones.

I've been making Lyonaise potatoes since I was 18 or so. It's an almost intuitive recipe and friggin delicious. It's best with new potatoes or golden potatoes compared to russet.

I did this with homemade beef gravy, minus the onions & some of the spices/ seasoning. Fried potatoe medallions with hot gravy & maybe some sorta meat protien (better poutine)
