I’ve had a couple requests to show how to make Ernies food. We have been using the Just Food For Dogs Beef and Russet Potato recipe and nutritional supplement powder for the last couple of months. We tried their Chicken and White Rice before that but Ernie likes beef better than chicken in general.
Just Food For Dogs is a pet food that uses all fresh and human-grade ingredients. It’s sold at Petco and you can buy the recipes already made or buy the DIY supplement and make the food at home.
It’s much cheaper to make it, which is the main reason we don’t just purchase it at Petco or online. When you buy the supplement, the recipe card will be inside the can. I’m also including the ingredients list below.
Notes: make sure to wash all veggies and fruit thoroughly before chopping/cooking. Make absolutely sure all apple seeds and core are removed bc these can be toxic to dogs.
Ingredients are below for a half batch as shown in video (about 5.75 lbs of food):
40 ounces lean ground beef, 85/15 (raw weight)
1.25 ounces beef liver, diced or ground (raw weight)
28.5 ounces white potatoes, with skin
15 ounces sweet potatoes, with skin
2.5 ounces carrots, finely chopped
2.5 ounces green beans, finely chopped
1.25 ounces green peas, finely chopped
1.25 ounces green or red apples, cored, seeds removed, finely chopped
4.5 tablespoons Safflower Oil
1/2 Tablespoon Just Food For Dogs Omega Plus Fish Oil
4.5 teaspoons Just Food For Dogs Beef and Russet Potato DIY Nutrient Blend
Recommend using a scale to weigh ingredients and food processor to chop.
