In 2019 Major League Baseball came under fire for allegedly attempting to artificially inflate offense and home runs by using a brand new baseball...
But just how juiced were the baseballs used in the 2019 MLB season? The statistics will shock you...

They were giving Judge juiced balls to chase records. Imagine being able to give one team the juice balls in the final ending of the game to decide it. Sports are rigged.

Yeah I don't like that either. I can't fault Judge personally for it but it makes his record as asterisk-worthy as any of the other single-season home run ones. I also can't help but wonder what Roger Maris Jr. would say about that lol.

Best explanation of what happened with the juiced baseballs I’d seen! Way better than most ppl who just say they changed it and leave it at that One of the more worse contracts that came from this explosion is the White Sox’s with Yoan Moncada As for how the should be , it needs to be balanced as best as it can be, too many amazing pitching performances is an issue , too many home runs is an issue , what makes both those things great baseball to watch is the severity of them not the amount of them

For the fans it’s great. For the game it’s terrible

I may be in the minority but I'd like to see a deader baseball. Home runs are fine but I think they've lost some degree of value at this point. Also tired of seeing so many strikeouts. I get that there's a component of high K rates being the result of the modern pitching approach but I think that a deader baseball would just force batters to approach their at bats with a different type of discipline. I don't even think the run scoring would change a ton if significantly more balls were being put in play in the first place. There would still be plenty of offense, it would just be less all-or-nothing. And of course there would still be plenty of home runs, they'd just occur a little less frequently. I think the overall game would only benefit.

absolutely not, offense is how the game of baseball makes money. There's a reason the "dead ball era" was terrible. Pitchers are already so dominant that hitters need every edge they can get.

@rico9163 I actually agree with you and prefer a balanced game that leans towards the offensive side, but my point was more that I think that deadening the ball a bit could counterintuitively increase overall offense given the changes that have occurred since the deadball era. The parks are way smaller, the players are bigger, and they all grew up hitting home runs so it's not a foreign approach like it was 120 years ago. I think there'd still be plenty of home runs given these factors, they'd just be a little less common and I think that it would require hitters to focus more on putting the ball in play, at least in certain counts and circumstances, which I think would be good for the overall state of offense because it could lead to fewer strikeouts, more balls in play, and as a result of these things likely a similar amount of runs per game, if not slightly more when all the variables are accounted for. It's also my understanding that the traditional "dead ball" was tougher to pitch with too, less aerodynamic and even a baseball that's a few steps in that direction could probably curtail the speed and level of movement seen by most pitchers these days. Maybe by just a little, but a little can be a lot in a game of inches and microadjustments.

@lolokfdxtdxtd yeah, I'd rather see more contact than power. I like seeing power too, but since they correlate pretty inversely, if I had to pick one I'd pick contact. Genuine power hitters would be power hitters in any era. But I think the average hitter should just focus on putting the ball in play. Avg. slg% 2023 was .414 and avg. K% was 22.7%. I don't think those numbers line up.
