This episode of Cut The Clutter derives from two pieces of fine journalism from ThePrint stable. The first is a report by Nikhil Rampal on how Israel, with no oil reserves to speak of, beat its oil-rich neighbours and economic doom to emerge as the second-richest Mideast nation, ahead of even Saudi. The second is a report by TCA Sharad Raghavan, who has learnt from government officials that 10 percent of India’s oil imports from Russia are being paid for in the Chinese yuan. Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta explains how Israel got its economy booming, and discusses what trade in yuan means for talk of rupee globalisation. Ep 1267.

You are the one who declared first that India should not accept BRICS common currency, india only should stick with $. I said India has two option, either India accept BRICS currency managed by BRICS Bank which India is a member and India has a say in it, or accept Yuan as a reserve currency and India has no say whatsoever and India is slave to another reserve currency. You pretend to be smarter person, India will never and should never accept BRICS currency. This tells what a ignorant moron you are. BTW, In FOREX anyone can buy currency, India is buying Yuan using $. So, again you are total wrong

Hi sir. I'm from israel and I love watching your videos, thanks a lot for making this video about my country. I have few points to add though: 1. Education is really ingrained in the jewish culture. Through centuries, jews from all over the world, regardless the place they lived (usually in small villages), were always constantly studying. It wasn't uncommon to have a village where jewish kids can write and read while their local adult neighbors could not. There was usually a Rabbi (equivalent to a guru) who taught kids about the bible and everything else, and through these lessons they developed sharp thinking skills. 2. Debating and raising questions - It's common in israel for an employee to enter his boss office and tell him "I think you're doing it wrong" and how they can change for the better. It's common to raise a red flag when needed, ask hard questions and suggest (even if no one asked) how things can be done better. This work culture which might seem a bit "rude" for outsiders generates a very fruitful, productive enviorment.

Emphasis on education is one trait that Indians and Israelis/Jews have in common. Indian families spend up to one third of their income on children's education. The educational system in India is not commensurate with the importance ordinary Indians place on education though.

A good vlog on the Israeli economy. A good example of how far ahead it has been ahead of a country like India on high tech and IT industry is that the day India rejoiced the listing of Infosys on the Nasdaq a few decades ago, Israel had, not one, not two or three, but 28 IT firms listed in the Nasdaq.

Provide free education & training to all citizens - from nursery to any level - PhD, super-specialties, & by education & training i don't mean "a for apple, b for ball"... real education system that ancient gurukul used to follow, what japan, switzerland, south korea & israel are doing. provide that level of education free for all citizens. & then u don't have to EVER provide free electricity / free healthcare / free housing / free ration / free transport to anyone. u don't have to subsidized anything after that. only if high quality life changing education & training is free from start to any point. all schools in country should be govt controlled only. & instead privatize all ports, air ports, railway, intercity transport services - buses & metro, & specially hospitals - when people get free/cheap treatments, they don't care abt health. the extreme high cost of medical facilities, treatments will make you realize that there is nothing more valuable than health. all bad habits - alcohol, drugs, tobaco, junk food, will be gone. so there should be no free/cheap traveling, no free or cheap treatments. remove multiple tax slabs & tax exemptions. 7% tax, compulsory for all rich n poor. total tax collection will increase, business can grow & more job opportunities will be created. all of these changes starting with free high quality education n training can truly catapult INDIA ahead of all major economies. we keep glorifying oil n gas as resources, while the biggest natural resource for any country is the young population - 67% population in INDIA is young & full of untapped potential. nothing should be free or subsidized except education & training. - Me 😊🙏

Let's just realise the core issue with state of current Indian system we do have some excellent policies and competent system but all that gets vanished under the extreme corruption that our country faces, we are so busy in-fighting amongst ourselves that there's no respect between government and opposition. Israel got ahead because they realised that they are surrounded by enemies who want Israel gone from the face of the earth and that they have no natural resources so they invested in science and technology they are highly nationalistic and there's no major discrimination amongst Israelites they care for their nation and that's why are so far ahead. Imagine if India got similar money from Reagan in the 80s almost all of it would be gone due to corruption. We are divided people on a lot of things but then that's also our strength and we have to let go of out petty differences and put fellow citizen first. We need to heavily reduce corruption and tax evasion and the general lawlessness if we fix these core issues then we can definitely get ahead of any country in the world.

India has a lot to learn about the priorities a nation must pursue for the development of its people....Israel formed in 1948, Singapore formed in 1965, South Korea in 1945 and India in 1947....but the Indian standard of living and per capita income has a long way to go when compared to Israel, Singapore and South Korea....India is still stuck in the mire of religion, communal, caste and ethnic issues and of course our neighbours in the North and West.....but then again Israel too has very unfriendly neighbours and so did Singapore

Singapore has very unfriendly neighbours? Says whom? In fact Singapore's rapid growth was partially credited to it being located in a stable region. Its immediate neighbours Malaysia and Indonesia have good relation with Singapore since 1966. Bulk of consumables in Singapore is exported from Malaysia. Malaysia also supply water to Singapore. Almost a million Malaysian currently working in Singapore. Singapore never went to war with any nations since its independence unlike Israel. So your comparison of Israel with Singapore is not an apt comparison.

A brilliant de-cluttering piece giving a very good insights on how Isreal became so rich! India really should mine or invest in its greatest of resources which is human resources. But I'd like to point out that it has already started since 2015; when AAP decided to spend 25% of its budget in education. Most of AAP's welfare politics is investment or mining in human resources. I may also add that the demons of anger and hatred unleashed by BJP since 2014 nationally is the biggest impediment in development of human resources. Because it benefits only a few at the top leaving the very percentage of people out of the development opportunities. Look at Manipur to understand the devastating effect of politics of anger and hatred Biren Singh government followed. We must recognize and appreciate AAP's welfarism policies. Rather than brooding over "look how Israel became so rich from a broken economy", we should recognize, appreciate and promote the one in India.

We can learn a lot from Congress' schemes in Karnataka as well, especially regarding the unemployment payments and such (I don't agree with all schemes but do appreciate the thinking that went into them). The problem of inequality is oblivious to the top strata of Indian society, who will thus label many welfare schemes as 'freebies'.

Israel has a successful, highly diversified hi-tech sector, but they do have a problem. The rapid growth has lead to a real shortage of people to work in the hi-tech sector, which leads to higher wages as companies fight over the best workers. High wages reduce profits and also can put a dent in foreign investment, that has become a lot more price-conscious. This is then leading to a lot of Israeli companies moving overseas...possibly to India, where workers are more plentiful.

India has DIVERSITY and IMMENSE human potential. Though we are now starting to doing better in the R&D area, it can be improved significantly more. Around 1876, John Hopkins was the 1st one to focus more on research and success followed. Soon the US govt gave lands & grants to set up state wide unis requiring them to set up research areas in addition to their regular academic faculties to promote higher education. Universities were rated on research output and funded accordingly. In the years to follow those policies paid rich dividends making US the undisputed leader in research and technology. India can follow that playbook and leverage the demographic dividend, a rich civilization and diversity the country offers.

The Brahmins / Pandits were given this responsibility, but they have failed us as we are the most uneducated society in the world. Today they are in power and have reduced the amount spent on Education as a percentage of government revenue. On Education, only AAP is doing revelational work to build the future of India.

After islamic invasion almost all the temples were desecrated (northern part of india has barely any any ancient temple left) it's educational institutions were burnt down like takshashila, shardha Nalanda etc After british colonialism entire temple ecosystem was brought under state control which continues even today brahmins were demonised and Christian institutions were founded, entire wealth was looted. Post independence anything hindu was hated all the power structure was filled with marxist communist who hated brahmins to the core So tell me how did brahmins fail? With the rise of brahmins, hindus will rise no community ever grows by abusing and disrespecting their priestly class only hindus do that but that is a recent phenomenon , clearly the effects of Christian-marxist education is yielding results.
