I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the ban, I just don't think the characterization from Paul that Hawley doesn't recognize that the first amendment protects communism is fair; Hawley would agree with this, Hawley is objecting to letting a hostile foreign government spy on US citizens.

The solution we need is REAL privacy laws. Not a ban, and definitely not the restrict act (the patriot act 2.0) - hard pass.

There's a difference between banning free speech content and not allowing surveillance of user data without their consent. All back doors to user personal & sensitive data should be disabled across all social media platforms, whether foreign or domestic, regardless of the content.

I never thought I'd so strongly side with Rand Paul. .. I've switched to a different universe. My respect for Rand Paul, even though I rabidly disagree with him on many things. He is willing to parce through issues and not blindly follow party rhetoric. I didn't realize that about him. I just wish he'd used towards Josh Hawley the same vitriol and hate filled tone he used with Anthony Fauci ( which I denounce his treatment of Fauci but support his right to say what he thinks)

The laws should have been in place a decade ago when FB was the behemoth data owner. Every company should be treated equally in front of the laws of data privacy. Discrimination against foreign companies will destroy the global order that America tries to keep. Don't use human rights as an excuse for protectionism.

As is Amazon, except their devices aren't as secure. Facebook has been upset since apple rolled out the "do now allow to track" feature put on all phones (android followed suit) so they're really hurting. It's so upsetting how little these reps know nothing of how anything in tech works.
