Love the sound of the 3208 Cat. Even better when turbocharged and in a Ford truck with a 5 speed manual and 2 speed axle on lovely country roads…that really looks like a lot of fun to drive.

I have a NA 3208 and it suprises me how much power it has, itll take my truck at 34,000lbs up a hill at 55mph- i couldnt image a turbo’d one

very nice! what is your transmission? wondering if i can put a cat 3208 in mine and keeping my transmission.i have a 1975 ford LN700 361 gas engine 10 speeds manual (roxel) clark transmission. head gasket is blown. thx!!! J-S from ontario canada!

Thanks. The transmission is a Spicer 5 speed model CM-5552-A. 3208s came with a few different transmissions, so it's possible with the right clutch and bellhousing it may bolt up. I don't think it will just work as is, but I don't have enough experience with these trucks to know for sure.

Most 3208s and 3208Ts used either the Spicer 6252B 5-speed manual or the Allison MT-643 4-speed automatic; some had the Fuller RT-6610 10-speed manual or the RTO-6613 13-speed manual.

Just getting into trucks on yt, I like that it's "only" a 5-speed since I'm a big car guy. I imagine they're not great for hauling heavy loads because of the relatively wide-spaced ratios, but I'm sure the 2-speed axle helps. Maybe when not hauling anything the axle can be left in Hi and the truck driven like a really big Mustang, lol

It probably depends on state. But typically, if it's not registered commercial, you don't. It also helps if its classic. It can more easily be insured and registered for private use.

Can the turbos on these be intercooled Just a Dumb Question?

Yes. Pipe routing is a challenge, though, because of how the turbo and intake manifold are oriented. The turbo needs to be clocked about 90 degrees, and the intercooler pipe going into the manifold would have to make a sharp 180-degree turn to connect. I do plan on intercooling it, but I'd like to get an intake manifold from a naturally aspirated 3208, which will solve part of that problem. Also, the naturally aspirated manifold has more flow potential as the ports are much larger. For packaging reasons, the inlet ports on the turbo specific manifold are about 25% smaller than the head port. An intercooler alone would be a major upgrade.
