Tata Steel has confirmed plans to close blast furnaces at its plant in Port Talbot, South Wales, with the loss of more than 3,000 jobs.
About 2,800 jobs will go over the next 18 months, with a further 300 to be lost.
Tata said in a statement: “Tata Steel today announced it will commence statutory consultation as part of its plan to transform and restructure its UK business.

Tata is known for its High Morals. Even in India they never bribe. If they are losing millions per day they should take the call. Tata has saved JLR and Corus jobs even when Ford couldn't run it.

Well here's a brief one-liner summary. TATA Steel (world's one of the biggest and the best steel manufacturers) was forced to spend $3.5 bn. (to achieve net zero carbon emissions target of EU/uk, by shutting down all the blast furnaces and bringing in Electric furnace) at a loss making plant in Britain (obviously Tata refused and demanded "at least" half of the burden to be bear by the govt., cuz it was their aspirations/target not company's) but Britain is crumbling nowadays they offered only $500mn. TATA with a heavy disappointment accepted as both UK and Indian authorities were begging them not to sell the plant (china might buy). So to achieve UK/EU target 🎯 they did this. As electrical furnaces require very few people.

"To create jobs in China?' Get bloody real. One could argue that the integrated iron and steel plant should be kept on strategic grounds, especially if all UK construction was forced to use domestically-produced steel, but look at the 2,022 world steel production figures before you try a "To create jobs in China" argument. World Steel Production. 1.9 billion tons. China 1,000 million, India 140 million, Japan 86 million. USA 80 million. Russia 75 million. South Korea 66 million. Germany 35 million. UK 6 million. And for comparison with third world countries. Vietnam 19 million. Mexico 16 million. Egypt 10 million. China doesn't need our 6 million tons production. Keep port Talbot for strategic reasons, but in its present form it's not economically viable.

Well now, in the 1950-60's when I was around it was the Steel Company Of Wales. Somewhere along the line it became British Steel, Corus Steel and now TATA Steel. Sadly it is not economically viable as an integrated iron and steel plant. In 2,022 China made 1,000 million tons of steel. TATA Port Talbot made 6 million tons. Can't compete and it's losing circa one million pounds per day. Best deal for TATA is to give it to the UK government and let them shoulder the burden. Only viable argument is to keep it open as an integrated iron and steel plant for strategic reasons,---and force all British construction to use domestic steel.
