Anyone who has DCS knows Heatblur is probably the best developer for the platform. Their Tomcat and Viggen in DCS are fantastic. Their upcoming F-4 Phantom looks... frankly incredible. This looks brilliant. Almost indistinguishable from the DCS one. Of course the DCS one is substantially more in depth and you get to use the mighty AWG-9 to lob Phoenix missiles from 60 miles away haha. And if you want to do a proper case I carrier landing, there's plenty of material on KZfaq.

Heatblur and razbam are easily the highest quality DCS devs... but frankly... don't see the f-14 in MSFS selling too well.
@paristo
@paristo 6 ай бұрын
The best developer for DCS is not the Heatblur (and Razbam is far behind many others). The best is very uncredited Aviodev with their C-101 and the almost same team Aerges, with their F-1 Mirage. The C-101 has systems simulated far deeply than Heatblur has their Tomcat or Viggen. You can literally take any page from the real manual and run it through with the C-101 and it is from fuses to all emergency procedures and damage modelings right there. Something that is not in F-14, Viggen, Hornet etc. What comes to the 3D work, Razbam is ahead of the Heatblur. Where the heatblur does make great interactive cockpits, they have forgotten the performance requirements and that is where Razbam beats them. As they produce very fine quality 3D work and textures that doesn't require so much resources from the computer, unlike the Heatblur work does. And let's be realistic, while all shaking and randomly changed cockpit textures etc are fun, it doesn't really matter. If you can get 10 FPS more in VR without those, people choose the better VR performance over gimmick graphics. What comes to Razbam products, their AV-8B Harrier is totally incorrectly simulated (navigation system, ground attack systems, cockpit systems etc). Some parts are because DCS doesn't have such functionalities like contrast detection and tracking API. But most are just for the Razbam incapability to even read the real manual and understand the systems technical limitations and engineered working principles how systems really work and what they solve in which way. Razbam as well claimed lot of things back in the day like separated process for their radar simulation, that was total lie. Years after the Multithreading came to DCS it might have changed, but before it there was nothing additional to shifted on any "unused cores" to off-load your performance, that was evidentually demonstrated by community members by debugging the operating system process management that nothing extra was running when Mirage 2000 was flown, installed or at all. The Razbam F-15E is own kind project, I don't go to say thing about that. But I can only believe that it is correctly done based to real pilots comments and demos back before release. The M2000 would never have come great module if the French air force would not have stepped in and vocally voiced that the community is exactly correct that M2000 is totally incorrectly done, and that if Razbam wants then French air force will help Razbam to fix things. And that is why M2000 became totally different plane than what it was for years after launch when Razbam insisted that community is wrong, even when they were quoted with exact pilot manuals and engineering graphcs that how things should work (that French airforce backed up as well). Couple years later Razbam took hat to their hand and step down from their tower and silently admitted that they had no idea what they were doing. Why Razbam hired the new guy to redo all the M2000 weapons and radar system. The hard sad truth is that majority of the DCS modules are left rotting half correct. Look at the MiG-21Bis, that no one anymore knows has right flight modeling or not even close, as it has been so wildly gone from one end to another in spectrum and each time said "it is correct now". Its radar system is still the same old laser based code that it had when it was just a mod. And weapons and RWR systems are unfinished. The MiG-19P (Razbam) is still a superior in flight performance than many 4th gen fighters, not to talk about its radar simulation lacking. The greatest strength Heatblur has is their long lasting time invested to improve their products. And they need to be honored for their challenging workload considering how much ED will cause problems by changing their codes without informing developers that what happens. Why the ED own open beta / closed beta and stable development cycle doesn't work, majority is on the open beta that should never happen in any means. The online community should be 90+% about stable branch and not Open Beta.

@@paristo "The C-101 has systems simulated far deeply than Heatblur has their Tomcat." Holy shit, WTF was that 1000 word essay for?? literally EVERYTHING you spewed out in that essay is factually 100% fucking incorrect. Like... what? Its genuinely laughable that you convinced yourself that your delusions are reality so hard that you wrote this response to a one sentence comment on youtube... Compared to heatblur and razbam, the F1 has mediocre radar simulation, terrible RWR simulation, quite basic flight modelling which was quite inaccurate in the beginning, based mostly on a few charts and pilot feedback, and so on. Heatblur has THE best RWR simulation available to consumers. Its not even close. Both razbam and heatblur use actual radar physics equations for their radar simulations, as does ED for the F18 and F16. The F4 is above everything else so far in flight sims. Its based on physically modelled parts. Literally every part affects everything else. Read up on it.

Cool easter egg about the livery flown in the video, the name tape beside the pilot seat is Admiral George "Skip" Furlong, a retired United States Naval aviator inducted into the Arkansas Aviation Hall of Fame. He was enlisted for three years as a flight engineer on the PBY-5 before enrolling as a Midshipman at the United States Naval Academy. He had approximately 500 hours as a flight engineer and nearly 5,000 flight hours as a pilot, of which over 800 hours were combat sorties over the span of 3 Vietnam deployments in the F-11 Tiger. He was also an F-4 test pilot, and, most importantly, the reason his name is on the side of the plane is because he was the F-14 Fleet Introduction Program Manager.

Ok as somewhat of an expert in MSFS I have a couple things to say about this flight model. I started using FS back in DOS 1.0 days with MSFS 1.0 at Meigs Field in Chicago, and I could only dream of having an F-14 Tomcat back in those days. But the little Cessna was enough to make most of us happy. I am a certificated airman so I know a little about actual flight. But what makes this Release very special for me at least is that back in the late 70’s I was stationed at NAS Miramar, working on those Tomcats, specifically the one squadron in HeatBlur’s stable the “VF-211” aircraft with the TF-30 Pratt & Whitney engines (F-14A). I was an AD (Jet engine mechanic) and I had hundreds of hours in that cockpit. I held low power and high power turn qualifications as well as low & high power turn instructor and taxi qualifications. At the east end of the runways (by Interstate 15) sat two “Hush Houses) where I’d take the Tomcats to do any high power (zone 1 to 5) afterburner testing and calibration. The A model T Tomcat had numerous issues with the Afterburner Fuel Control so I spent a lot of time in those Hush Houses. It was a blast, being a young 20 something hot shot mechanic playing with the premiere Fighter aircraft of its era. I was a Motörhead before I joined the navy and had SS Camaros, Novas & Corvettes to play around with but NUTHIN compared to slamming the throttles into zone 5 afterburner and having that jet kick me right in the ass!! Enough of my trip down memory lane, this is one of the most accurate models of the Tomcat from this era but the startup procedure in NATOPS differed quite a bit than in this model, but as far as MSFS is concerned this is the closest thing yet! Even down to being able to EJECT!! Amazing! I just wish you could see the punch out and parachute opening sequence. Another side note, the Martin-Baker ejection seat actually has about a dozen pins and switches to arm and disarm the seat, but you’d have to model a plane captain arming this seat as the pilot straps in. I do also like to canopy opening lever is exact and the only model that has this modeled accurately. Nice touch. All in all this is a great addition to MSFS and I’m very happy to be able to finally get back to my Naval roots at Miramar in my very own actual Fighter Squadron, call sign Nickel. Our sister squadron was VF-24 the Fighting Renegades and in the early 1980’s we were assigned Hangar 1 with Topgun sharing it with us. After a couple WESPACs on the USS Constellation CV-64 we returned to Hangar 3 and then Hanger 5 after a third deployment. My Airwing was the group that tried to rescue the Iranian held American Hostages and after President Reagan took office and the hostages were released, he came aboard the Connie and declared us “America’s Flagship” President Reagan is the only President that I met in person. Sorry about the long stories but nobody wants to listen to my old sea stories and the grandkids aren’t old enough to appreciate them yet. But my son and daughter in law are also Navy sailors and approaching their retirement here in the next year, so the only things we’ll have shortly is memories and stories. But I hope at least one of you enjoys tales from someone who lived with this fearsome warbird, I wouldn’t change my time with them for the world!! Fair Winds & Following Seas and thanks for this AMAZING MSFS aircraft!! Peace out y’all.

It looks fabulous to a point, especially if you are a casual F-14 fan, but if you know the bird like I do, there are plenty of errors in the jets appearance. Not trolling, just observations from someone in the military aviation industry who is very familiar with the aircraft. Basically, this is a 1974 paint scheme from a Block 70 airframe that was applied to a 1990s Block 145 airframe, and there are a number of visual differences between those two production blocks . The jet depicted is Navy Bureau of Aeronautics number (BuNo) 158979, and was built in 1972 as the 40th F-14 manufactured. Those specific squadron markings are from 1973 till about 1979, after which the white control surfaces & undersides were changed to the same gull gray color as the rest of the jet, so you would not see this exact paint scheme in the 1980s. Since the jet was only in service for two years by 1974, the cockpit would still look a lot newer than whats used in the simulation. This specific jet was repainted into the Heater-Ferris splinter camo scheme in 1976, so again, you would not see this jet in this scheme in the 1980s at all. The temp probe on the radome (its not a pitot tube) shouldn't be there. The gun gas vents are the later NACA vent style introduced in the 1990s, so this bird should have the early 7 panel grill vents. No TCS chin pod was on this airframe either. VF-1's assigned jets didn't start getting the TCS till about 1985. The external drop tanks weren't carried at that time due to the unavailability of the tank in sufficient numbers, and that's from a pilot who was on that 1974 cruise. No JDAMS on F-14s in 1974, just AIM-7s, -9s, & -54s. The MLG wheels are the the last design used, not the early style from Grumman. The tail reinforcing plates on the tails above the rudder weren't a thing yet, those were added to the airframe years later from the factory in the 80s. Lastly, the boat tail between the engine nozzles should be bigger, and not have the ECM hump. This bird was ultimately transferred to VF-301, one of the two Pacific coast reserve F-14 squadrons until it was sent to the boneyard in 1990, & scrapped in 2007. Thanks for reading.

An absolutely fantastic aircraft. Had my first flight yesterday and couldn't stop grinning. 😄By the way... have you ever wondered how much fuel is wasted every day when thousands of aircraft go through lengthy checklists with the engines running the whole time? P.S. how did you do the wingman thing? This doesn't seem to be a prerecorded ghost that you fly with, but rather the 2nd aircraft mimicking your every move with an offset position.

Absolute favorite aircraft in DCS so glad its in MSFS. I must admit though my favorite is being a backseater RIO with a a human pilot, nothing beats the teamwork and banter in a beast like the Tomcat. :)

Wow! It's graphically stunning! I know there are other developers who don't put as much effort into the visual model, but in a sim, a highly detailed, photorealistic aircraft always immerses me in the experience more than anything.

EXCELLENT walk through! Couple Questions. Where is the manual? I can't find it in the files from the in-game marketplace version, so I have no idea how to find the carrier, and second, Is your MCAS Mirimar scenery an add on?

i just saw that one in the MSFS2020 marketplace for i think 35€. i also like the F35 Lighting II. for 30€ it comes in all three versions. especially the F35B with it's vtol capabilities is very interesting and there are many helipad's in MSFS2020 to land the F35B on. i absolutely love this flight simulator!!

Laser scan of the cockpit in the DCS and MSFS for the Heatblur F-14 was done on the tomcat located in Titusville FL at the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum. It's the most complete cockpit on a non-flying F14 in the world.

To be honest, when I saw this add-on in the Marketplace, I thought: No, I'm not going to buy another poorly designed add-on. My opinion changed drastically after watching this review. The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was central to the 1986 film Top Gun. Producers paid the US Navy $886,000 (equivalent to $2,411,000 in 2022) as reimbursement for flight time of aircraft in the film with an F-14 billed at $7,600 (equivalent to $20,700 in 2022) per flight hour. Now you can virtually fly a very realistic, photo-realistic F-14 in MSFS for a few dollars. Another great review from iTB. Just. . . WOW.

Looks like they went to trouble to set up the Top Gun briefing hangar as it appeared in the movie - camo’d A4 outside, open doors, American flag and possibly Charlie (I couldn’t make her out and we weren’t shown, but it looked like black skirt and white blouse).

Got to admit, this is probably going to be a serious staple going forwards. I just need to figure out how to latch the autopilot on because the real thing uses a switch on the stick to engage/disengage and I think that logic is replicated here. It would be interesting to see if other aircraft from DCS can be ported over. But this is certainly up there with the Hawk, if not better because Jester will actually run his startup sequence so you don't need to go to the backseat (which I find tricky in MSFS for some reason). I did have one odd thing flying it yesterday though. Was doing a low pass over an airport and suddenly went to 0 airspeed and span down to the ground like I'd hit an invisible wall or something. But FS recently seems to have been doing odd stuff in general, like the harrier entering a permanent wing stall even in post recovery conditions.
