Yeah, the second time now. For their up and coming 3rd tour of the United States, they kick it off just like time with a national appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show (fun fact, according to Stone Alone, Bill Wyman's autobiography, they turned down playing on the London Palladium for as the band thought that while the Ed Sullivan show had all kinds of artists from different walks of life, London Palladium was very middle-aged humour, and the Stones didn't vibe with that).
This time around, the Stones played 1 original (technically 2), their latest single, "The Last Time". And 2 songs from their latest US album, "The Rolling Stones, Now!" ("Little Red Rooster", was a top ten single in the UK). The band played at the start and end of the show, with the only live "2120 south Michigan Avenue" appearing as the end credits played.
Setlist:
The Last Time - 0:04
Little Red Rooster - 3:35
Everybody Needs Somebody To Love - 6:10
2120 South Michigan Avenue - 9:07

The show Bonanza began the restaurant Bonanza. I worked there in high school in the 70's . For our small town with very few decent restaurants, the business boomed. The menu had great steaks and catfish on Friday. Decent desserts, but there was no tipping. Pretty disgusting.

I just posted the same thing on My Facebook page. I did say that I seen this because I had all my homework done.. From the beginning THE ROLLING STONES WERE MY FAVORITE BAND. WHEN ALL THE OTHER KIDS HAD BEATLES BOOK COVERS, I HAD THE ROLLING STONES. WE COULD BUY THEM AT HESTEDS IN THE BOTTOM PART OF THE CENTER. I LOVED THE DAVE CLARK FIVE TOO BECAUSE THEY HAD A 🎷 SAXOPHONE PLAYER. I'M NOT SAYING I DIDN'T LIKE THE BEATLES BUT THE ROLLING STONES & DAVE CLARK FIVE HAD SOUL, BIG TIME. LATER ON THE ANIMALS JOINED THE LIST. YEAH I'M SO OLD TOO 👍 AND I KNOW IT'S ONLY ROCK AND ROLL BUT I LIKE IT. HER MIND HERMITS WERE COOL BUT A LITTLE BUBBLE GUMMY VAN MORRISON= AWESOME, THE ZOMBIES = AWESOME THE MOODY BLUES- AWESOME, THE KINKS= AWESOME AND NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE BUT I REALLY COULDN'T STAND FREDDIE AND THE DREAMERS HERE IN AMERICA WE HAD JOHNNY RIVERS, THE EVERLY BROTHERS, PAUL REVERE AND THE RAIDERS , CHUBBY CHECKER ( WHO I MET) SAM AND DAVE, THE BEACH BOYS, THE TEMPTATIONS, SAM COOK, JAY AND THE AMERICANS, AND WITHOUT A DOUBT ELVIS, CARL PERKINS, BUDDY HOLLY, THEN LATER ON THAT'S A WHOLE NEW CATEGORY... WITHOUT A DOUBT I LOVED THE MUSIC OF MY TIME. ONE OTHER THING IS I NEVER PUT ANYONE DOWN FOR THE MUSIC THEY LIKE. AND AS LONG AS I AM HERE OMAHA'S OWN " BUDDY MILES" WHO I HAD PLAYED WITH QUITE A FEW TIMES AND WE WERE FRIENDS MAY HE REST IN GOD'S ETERNAL PEACE ✌️

@Joan In Florida Ed Sullivan and his show were so important because that was all we had in those days. Back then, we only had three TV networks, and his show was the only place to be on Sunday nights, and what he offered was so unique. He wanted something of interest for all audiences. Rock 'n' roll acts, still controversial, were not included on other shows at the time. Ed included them. And Ed's insistence that individual artists or groups play their music live gave a freshness and immediacy to their performance. They couldn't fall back into the comfort of lip-synching their way out. They had to perform, live, what got them on that stage in the first place. And if you really enjoyed a performance by someone like the Rolling Stones, you only got to see it...once. No one had home taping devices in those days. If you wanted to see that same performance by the Rolling Stones a second time, your best hope was seeing it in a summer rerun. His show really was a Sunday night institution. You're right. A person today can't really appreciate it unless they were around back then.

The Beauty of this is how awesomely RAW it is, ....yes it's 1965, so there's really no technical "polish" put on the audio, it's LIVE television, this is "strap it on, and go for broke" also for some FYI , this is their return performance after Ed Sullivan had vowed he'd never have them back again after their October 1964 show performance, some due to their "appearance/grooming" and also how crazy the audience reacted, parents wrote to CBS and complained .....but , Ed Sullivan, also was smart enough to recognize these guys were the "real deal" , just as important to showcase as the squeaky clean Beatles, DC5, etc. By the next time they returned (in color also) in '66 they were kings, ....Beatles, Rolling Stones, DC5, The Animals ....Kinks, what great time to be a teen!!!

I remember this particular show when the Stones came on.They were part of the Best and Brightest of the British invasion. Great Sounds! The Ed Sullivan Show was of a variety type since the beginning of Commercial TV in 1949. They had great musical acts like Latino bands and trios from Cuba, Puerto Rico (where I'm located) and Mexico. Great sounds from both sides of the Atlantic. After Ed Sullivan went off the air, TV began dividing up into regions, multiple genres and Marketing zones. Rock had been the only unifying medium before that. It was later that Drugs took over the Rock Scene, the Viet Nam war was winding down and the rest was history.
