Justice Sonia Sotomayor says Justice Brett Kavanaugh was welcomed into the Supreme Court "family" in the wake of his polarizing confirmation process. "When you're charged with working together for most of the remainder of your life, you have to create a relationship," Sotomayor said.

@@Mohamed-jb9yx Mr. Ali, One does not have to an immigrant to inspire other immigrants, and the politics of the PuertoRican nation is not something that is taught in the US, I doubt you understand the current or past state of the PuertoRican nation, but to not lack respect to your response or to think that you are ignorant of the history, I offer my apology, I would reference the spanish-american war and how Puerto Rico became what it is today, I suggest you read, open vein of Latin America, if you really care much about the current state of the southern countries and why the need of their citizens to immigrate to the country that pretty much, fuck them up. (not to assume that you are middle eastern, but it is a lot like what is happening today between the middle east and EU).

@Robert Hunt I think you're a bigger fool for thinking that the Supreme Court belongs to anybody at all. While each member has a personal ideology that could influence decisions, they aren't to be the partisan arena that we let the legislative and executive branch exist as. It belongs to no sides, left or right. Just the general American people and the Constitution in whichever way they interpret it.

The way Sotomayor described the concept of family is one of the biggest problems with the world. People look the other way when family members do all kinds of criminal, immoral, and unethical things out of misplaced loyalty. Sotomayor is saying that even the Supreme Court is not above those dynamics.

In politics the court is the one thing I trust. Even through the nominations I trust all 9 justices to make the right decisions and put the law and their country ahead of their party.

I believe they don’t bring political beliefs to the table, if they did, none of them would be in office that long. That’s why they have the seat until they die or resign. The reason they aren’t elected is, their jobs is outside of politics. We usually elect people who think like us, and will do things in our favor. A justice only has one job, interpret the law, no switch anything, in their favor.

She says that 95% of the cases in American courts are not appealed and concludes that the participants are satisfied with the judgment. Perhaps they simply can't afford to pay their lawyers any more...

Most of the non-unanimous decisions align along the assumed political leanings of the justices but almost all of those cases concern ideas still contentious in public life, too. I like what she said to Kavanaugh

She just shut down Axel. He was trying to get her to fume and get her to be "political"! I am conservative and don't agree with the views she has on lots social terms and perceptions of how things are. I agree with that what our court is on the supreme Court. She is certainly an honorable woman of what the Constitution means to our Country. But what she views from before the supreme Court Justice she used as her approach but that said she is another judge who defends it! I salute this woman and honor her role and opioin. It's too bad Axel tried to bait her but she is way smarter than him.. way smarter.. like a Corolla vs. a souped up Lamborghini etc. But she was so politely doing it. I wish we could have more dialogue such as this. Axel actually respectful towards her. We need to be respectful of the office of these folks and President. Congress as well but I have reservations doing so but I will be working towards that in the coming year.

Her rationale for not being partisan is that she and her fellow justices have different ways of looking at things, sort of like how partisans have different ways of looking at things. Furthermore, if you build a house with one tool it literally looks the same as if you build it with another tool with the same function, not different. I don't even understand what she is trying to argue, and her metaphor is nonsense. It's amazing someone with as much education as her would think this "erroneously," a word she used most likely to make herself look smarter than she actually is by the way, because she thinks that rationalizes her judicial authority, when in all reality her authority is blatantly illegitimate, and undemocratic.

theRealAV8r I find it odd how liberals love to say things like “and the judge was appointed by :insert Republican:!” when rulings go against what is considered the conservative ruling. Take Obamacare for example or this latest ruling with Acosta. Doesn’t this mean republicans appoint judges who are freer thinkers? How often do liberal judges go against the liberal grain in their rulings? Isn’t that why the 9th circuit is the most overturned, because of their unwavering adherence to ideology rather than law?

This could cause the erosion of trust in the judiciary, which is most concerning considering this branch requires the public to place substantial trust in judges, their wisdom, and the availability of judgments without partisanship. It's not enough to sound like a judge if the heart is far from justice. Psalm 82 - "How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked?...Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked. They [judges] know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness..."

Sotomayor is saying whatever she needs to say in order to remain endeared to the American people. If she appears to like Kavanaugh and refer to him as "family", then that will endear her to conservatives and they'll like her more (keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.) Sonia is smart, and in her heart-of-hearts she knows that no person with the reputation of Brett Kavanaugh would EVER be invited to sit at her family table; and she KNOWS it.

... "A supreme court justice is a crown jewel of the law" (Brett Kavanaugh). The "family" of the SCOTUS is The People", the common good, not 9 Justices with jeweled crowns. Their duty is to serve The People, not to protect each other or special interests from due process or to promote privilege. The Constitution does not allow any U.S. Citizen to be endowed with a royal title or position. It's nice if they can get along but their responsibility is to protect and defend the Constitution and it's purpose as stated in its Preamble. The Preamble to the Constitution says "We The People" ... not I the King or We the Justices. ... "We The People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the General Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." Article I, Section 9, clause 8, .. "No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince or foreign State."

Justice black was the best Justice , he was liberal but his views base on the constitution, he carry a little constitutional book in his pocket at all times .
