I decided to include the Flateyjarskagi "Flat Island Peninsula" in this town video since it's a unique place and a big part go the towns surrounding so I hope you like this approach because this is one of our hidden pearls that offers so many options for travellers.

An area I know well and I´ve been many times to as it is my father´s side and his forefathers area. My father and many of his siblings was born in one of those 20 houses in Grenivík in the 40´s (house called Borg). That whale watching boat in 1:37 is named after my father´s brother by his sons (if you look closely you can see the name "Áskell Egilsson"). Another brother of my father made a book that was published in english about growing up there and farm life ("Waiting for the south wind" by Valgarður Egilsson). Their family were in the farm Hléskógar. The british army btw occupied Grenivík for a while in 1940 ( my old aunt remembers them). My grandfather is born in the farm Austari-Krókar in Flateyjardalur (it is no more) and also grew up for a while in the forest of Skuggabjörg in Dalsmynni valley. I could write much more but that´s what sprung to mind first.

Thanks a lot Ari for this nice addition to the story, appreciated, it's a wonderful region and I can't wait to get there with a drone, I used to do some genealogy research before it became digital and ruined the fun :) but I browsed through a whole lot of ancient church registries around there and somehow got the feeling I had to connect my self better to the region, and thats an ongoing process for me, hopefully I can offer some proper 4K aerial footage fro there in my channel in future, and always welcome :)

Seeing Iceland through your eyes and thoughts is such a privilege. Thank you for giving us such incredible photography of one of the most beautiful places on earth, and for telling its story that places the land and people in context. And of course, the horses and other animals too! I truly hope to visit someday.

A special thank you for this video. I have very good memories of Grenivík. During many visits of Dalvík I looked across the fjord to Kaldbakkur which seemed to me to be a perfect mountain fpr a ski tour by fair means (not by **** helicopter!). And one day I did it. I also hiked starting at the swimmingpool of Grenivík the Leirdalsheiðarvegur to Þönglabakki then over to Keflavík and over Uxaskarð to Látur. Thank God that no 4x4 will ever reach these peaceful places! 🙂The way back along the coast of Látraströnd was a dream come true. The trip took me five days and I met only two other hikers. I also visited Flatey thee times last summer. A perfect spot to watch puffins - they even nest in the small harbour.

My daughter and I have visited Iceland four times, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016 and in all this time we have remained totally entranced by your beautiful, rugged country - the geology, the plant life, the birds, the communities and the history. So your videos and narrations feed our souls. Thanks.

Flateyjarskagi has been on my radar since I watched your video of driving Látraströnd. The desolate beauty reminds me of Langanes, which I had the pleasure of visiting on a previous trip. Grenivík and Flateyjarskagi will definitely be on the itinerary for the next trip! I love these kind of unspoiled places off the beaten track. You may not want to be a tourist brochure but you’re succeeding anyway. ;)

12-19 February we are coming from Sweden to Iceland. Whole family, 2 adults and 3 kids. Thanks for all this beautiful images and recommendations! I’m a photographer I love with nature and wildlife. I won’t be able to “escape” from the classic touristy sites due to family wish but still hope to be able to take some great shots. I would love to hang with you for a beer if we could meet somehow :) tack för allt!

Hello and greetings to Sweden, hope you will have a fantastic trip, yes the tourist package photo tours are a bit boring for me :) but then you might find good light at Geysir and Gullfoss, but I know... family obligations and waiting for the photo light doesn't always go together :) but just check me out when you are here but I'm actually in Akureyri now, but I will be in south Iceland in a week or two for some work, but don't know exactly when at this moment since I'm often chasing the light, yes, terrible job :). justicelandic@gmail.com....greetings, Gylfi

My wife and I have been to Gnenivik on one of our trips to Iceland. What we do when we are in Iceland. If there is a road we take it and see where it goes and see what is there. There is so much to see. After seeing your video we will go back there this year. Thank you for you drone footage. I love that view. Not far from there is the Ystafell transportation museum. Have you ever been to that museum. If you like Icelandic cars it is a place for you. There items that are unique to Iceland there. Have a great day Linda and Ben

it should be possible for some oen to capitalize in using Snow-cat trail groomers, snow-mobiles and such to bring people in and out of the area in winter. just only need to mark the trails well, and have some support to get up in there.
