I was sooo happy to see Boyd!!!! I know characters have to evolve but i really missed the old Raylan and definately Boyd. They really made the show as a duo. I think if they do a season 2, they need to bring elements from the previous series and characters and maximize on that. The storylines are endless, for sure. I wouldn't mind Raylan taking on an Art role but the firecracker version of Art. Im gonnaa need him to shoot more people too🤣🤣🤣

I think that when he finally closed the book on Clement and figured out just how deep the corruption was in the DPD, he really was done. I think he came to understand that he couldn't keep doing what he was doing how he was used to doing it and be a great father to Willa. I genuinely believe his intent was to avoid the kind of dynamic that he had with Arlo. So when he's out on the boat and he gets the call that Boyd broke out...I think he lets it ring. The totality of all that he has done is to be considered here and that's why I believe this retirement is final. He can't risk another go with Boyd and chance things going his way again. It's someone else's problem now, not his.

I really think, Raylan’s thoughts we’re more of confusion. Basically he asked the question in episode 6, how does a pure shit bird get so lucky over and over again? Mansell was not smart or driven as other criminals he’s faced, but always seemingly to walk away.

Wow, you actually missed the point of the ending. The story Detective Raymond Cruz tells is the same ending as Raylan's, aka shooting an unarmed man. Raylan is not the same person and is devoted to his daughter now more than the job. He won't pursue Boyd either because of the fears shared by Detective Raymond Cruz.

The last 20 minutes should have been the opening to the series. SPOILERS BELOW: Imagine if the show started with Raylan at the table and Mansell walks in. He shoots him. Then it cuts to him retired. The interaction with Winona and Willa on the boat. Then it cuts to Boyd escaping with the officer. That’s how you open a revival show! Then he talks or has a few flashbacks about what happened in Detroit (like he did with Tommy Bucks in the original show)… then the series could have been about Rachel asking Raylan to help them catch Boyd and he has to take him down the whole 8 episodes! Man, it would have been amazing.

Nah, going straight back to Boyd would be too soon in my opinion. I think the ending was perfect! Now they can choose to continue the series or they can end it here. Which I assume they will at least do another season with Boyd!! I really hope they do, those two are great in scenes together!!

I LOVED that draw on Clement. I think it played out so well with the lack of ceremony/melodrama. He was a delusional narcissist, and you could just tell that he wasn’t thinking at all about consequences. I think he just assumes everyone is on his same page, and the idea of Raylan not understanding his intentions when he reached for the tape hadn’t even crossed his mind.
@tubewacha
@tubewacha 9 ай бұрын
It was thought provoking and depressing, but I hated that Raylan was involved. Realism was a cowboy superpower that had the uncanny ability to do the right thing and always be justified. That shooting, although righteous, felt very questionable and unjustified.
@acoop9865
@acoop9865 9 ай бұрын
@@tubewacha Eh Idk, I think it was pretty justified. Clement (a mass murderer) had just broken into a home, and he was carrying a pistol in his waistband. It would’ve been borderline dumb for Raylan to wait to see what he had in his hand. Not to mention the guy had made multiple threats about getting into a duel etc etc. It was 100% justified in the eyes of the law, but I think Raylan sees it as a little bit tragic
@tubewacha
@tubewacha 9 ай бұрын
@@acoop9865 let's put it this way- I don't think Raylan was legally culpable in any way for the shooting, but he was in fact not in mortal danger when he shot Clement. It was therefore technically unnecessary, and this is the only time I can recall that Raylan unnecessarily killed someone.
@acoop9865
@acoop9865 9 ай бұрын
@@tubewacha totally agree with that. Which is why I liked it so much. He absolutely should have shot him, but he didn’t NEED to in hindsight… I think it highlighted the violence of what he’s been doing all these years in an interesting way.

I think the main reason Raylan quit was because he killed a man for the first time and it wasn't completely justified. The question Raylan asked himself was did he kill Mansell because he had to or because he wanted to. And in the end the answer is he wanted to. Raylan always took pride in being better than his father and he realized that he can be just as bad as him. That combined with his age made him walk away from the job that defined who he is.

@@The1TheyCallFoo313 Except Raylan didn't try to arrest Clement when he broke into Carolyn's house. If Raylan said "Hold it! Keep your hands where I can see them, you're under arrest!" or something like that and Clement still reached for the tape, then it would've been fine. But what ended up happening was more like that story Raymond Cruz told Raylan earlier in the show about how he shot a suspect dead when reached for a bottle opener. You could tell by the look on Raylan's face that he didn't know if Raymond was justified or not. And you can tell by the look on Raylan's face after he shot Clement that he crossed a line.

Best opening for a return show ever!!! Raylan gets carjacked...turns the tables on them...STILL goes to lunch with his daughter, leaves bad guys baking in the hot sun in a locked car with classic line, "I gave them orange slushies"... AND THEN NOTHING UNTIL THE FINALE!!! WHY??? WHY??? WHY??? SO BORING. I assume Raylan quits because he knew he'd tainted his badge taking out Clinton and covering for the dirty lawyer he was sleeping with...certainly, with her page of debts/payments torn from the murdered Judge's ledger before turning it in...now she's a judge...but Raylan knows it was dirty...and he dirtied himself helping. Thus, retires. BUT THEN BOYD!!!

Instead of this show centering around Raylan and how he interacts with the world around him like in the original, this feels more like Raylan being a featured guest star on a show that adjusts to the narrative of the show. However, I still enjoyed seeing him in a big city, I got tired of Kentucky towards season 5 of the original show.

I wondered if Clement was really a bad guy. He never really killed anyone “decent”. Mostly other criminals. That death scene felt like there was something we just missed learning from him. Who knows.
@VivaLaDnDLogs
@VivaLaDnDLogs 5 ай бұрын
I think you might be confusing "charming" with "decent". Clement killed, screwed over, provoked, threatened, and steamrolled over every person he encountered. He was the kind of man who, upon seeing a hornets nest, would kick it just to see what happens. He has never given any of his actions a second thought, and is only ever concerned with himself. He killed over a dozen people before he broke into his lawyer's house, the night after he shot his best friend and burned down his bar. And in the end, he was more concerned with Raylan's opinion of his singing voice than the consequences of his actions.

Once I saw Boyd I jumped out my seat with excitement and actually thought for a minute clement survived and was going to end up in the same hospital as Boyd , but Boyd breaking out is better. Timothy olphant was great as always but the cast, mostly the Detroit cops were pathetic . And I really thought Raylen was gonna get into shit for shooting unarmed clement but I'm guessing the video of killing everyone in the nursing home and breaking into a DA's house kinda ruins the whole unarmed thing. Really thought "great even justified is going down the all cops are bad and trigger happy hole c'mon " when clement pulled out the cassette tape.

City Primeval should have had nothing to do with Raylan Givens and would have been better served as a thought provoking, yet depressing TV movie . Instead they forced Raylan who slept walked through a bizarre boring season of Justified that lacks almost all the wit, humor, or entertainment of the original. The Detroit climax was anti-climatic and unsatisfying. What a waste. You know it's bad when the best part of the series is the epilogue of the finale.
