One of my high school teachers routinely rescued Savannahs and Bengals whose owners couldn’t handle them because he had the training to care for them and the engineering experience to build outdoor landscapes for them, and that’s the only case which I approve of owning hybrids

this reminds me a lot about the whole wolf/dog hybrid issue, where many end up in shelters and euthanized because people do not understand the difference between a wolf and a domesticated dog. The animal ends up very confused because they are not sure how to act and get punished for listening to survival instincts from their wolf side. It has taken several centuries to domesticate animals to the point of them living in our homes, and a wild animal is... a wild animal.

The fact that Bieber is still a thing is already a bummer...

I have two cats from breeders…. A ragdoll cat and a Siberian cat. I love them both so much, but I agree. When I got them, I was too young to realize that I could have been saving lives instead. I love cats, and try to help them in every way I can. I’d also like to point out that cats from breeders aren’t necessarily more healthy or social than shelter cats. My Siberian cat has anxiety and is territorial towards other cats (not to mention that he occasionally pees places he’s not supposed to), and my ragdoll cat growls and runs when she hears the doorbell. It’s the same with dogs. I have some friends that have a dog from a breeder who is absolutely terrified of people.

Just adopted a kitten last Saturday. A brown short hair tabby Love her so much. Took her awhile to start warming up to me, and not to be scared. She trills, chases her own tail, and is a goof ball... But I love her so much ❤️ Still a little skittish but such good girl

PREACH, I had a friend at one point tell me he wanted to get a savannah cat, he could easily obtain one because he has the funds for it but he knew nothing about them other then they looked cool and where "slightly more high maintenance" He's not a bad guy and one we talked about it I did convince him to not do it but so many people treat getting a pet like shopping for a new coat or something.

Hi, Kitten Lady! My friends and I have recently found eight two-week-old abandoned kittens in a box by the side of the road, far away from any human settlements. (We are cyclists, and we were out on a training ride). Everyone in the group took a few babies to foster, and I ended up caring for two kittens. I never cared for animals before, so it was all new and scary. We've been through the whole package: sleepless nights, inflamed eyes, fading kitten syndrome, refusal to eat, giardiasis, fleas... It's been 4 weeks since it all started and all of them are alive and healthy. 7/8 found permanent homes, the remaining one lives with me for now. Thank you so much for what you do, I cannot express how much you helped me! I am a transformed person now, now I'm a kitten lady too! Much love from Kyiv, Ukraine

As a note for people who do like breed cats: there are rescue groups for them! My first rescue is a domestic shorthair, but my second is a siamese because I had that breed growing up and I really missed their look and personality. So I spent two months looking for a rescue group that had a 1-2year old siamese male who was cat friendly and people affectionate, and I got exactly who I wanted. The poor thing was malnourished, coated in fleas (we picked 30 off with our bare hands in 24 hours!), had cigarette burns, and a bad respiratory infection. So yeah, i got a real rescue who needed a home, but still got the breed I wanted, and you guys can too.

I would also like to know about the welfare of the cats that are used to make these savannah kittens. I can imagine that for both the wild and the domestic cats it's not good. obviously the wild cats belong in the wild and not in captivity, but also the domestic cats are forced to breed with a cat that is much larger and wilder than they are. I can't imagine that's good for them....

If I remember right, Justin bought a monkey a while back. I don’t think he kept it. Just goes to show that his stupidity knows no bounds. You would think someone would figure out not to treat wild animals as pets the first time

There was a woman that came into the store I work at and she and my manager were going on and on about their love for Savannah Cats. The customer said she owned 2 and my manager said she used to own one. Yeah used to, means something went wrong, the cat did not die of old age in her home. It disgusted me that either of them thought it was okay to own half wild animals. Like Hannah says if you want a cat with spots and stripes go adopt a brown or grey tabby. They will be kinder, better pets and they are the ones who need a home.

People need to understand that pets are living beings, not fashion accessories. A fancy specially bred cat is not worth more than a cat from a shelter...I hope that someday a celebrity adopts a senior cat or a disabled cat to show the world that they're worthy of love too.

The number of times I see people on social media looking to “buy” a specific cat (or dog) and reject any comments from people who try to encourage them to adopt, even referring them to breed-specific rescue groups if they really have their heart set on a specific type of cat, and even get offended at the idea of “adopt, don’t shop”, saying things like “ we want to make sure we know what we are getting“. Is very depressing.

Ok I am a few years late to this party but this message will NEVER get old!!!!!! Of all the "Cat/Kitten" videos on the 'tube this one has to rank right at the very top of all that I have seen. It just breaks my heart every time I think of all the Cats/Kittens who don't find a home and either die outside in misery from illness or starvation or end up in a cage because people WILL NOT SPAY/NEUTER for whatever lame reason they have, most times they are just to fricken stingy to spend a couple of dollars! Sorry for the rant but it is what it is! I am currently caring for 16 Cats here on my farm all of which were just dumped out on a road near here, one was no more than 4 or 5 weeks old and it was just luck that I found her in time. Every single one of these Cats are very lovable and just simply adorable and as horrible as it is that someone would do this it's just as bad to buy a Cat from a breeder! Every Cat acquired from a breeder just means another Cat that didn't get adopted, why the hell can't people understand that????? I hear it all the time, "But I want a special breed Cat", well the truth is they are ALL "special breeds" and hard as it might be for some to believe it most people who adopt from a shelter will fall in love with the Cat they choose and wouldn't swap it for any breed in the world! Those who would are being selfish and are attempting to be Cat owners for all the wrong reasons, each of these little lives are precious and instead of wanting a status symbol choose to save a very precious life instead. By adopting you will be rewarded with all the love and happiness that comes with owning a Cat and also have the satisfaction of knowing you saved a life instead of contributing to the mind boggling and unnecessary misery and death that happens all over the country every year.

We have laws in Australia to prevent this happening. The US needs more laws to stop wild animals being ‘domesticated’ for personal, selfish reasons. I 100% agree with you! I wish there were more people like you. We are guardians of nature and as a whole, we abuse that power. Edit: also search up ‘Johnny Depp’s dogs in Australia’. We do not let fame or fortune determine our laws. Johnny had to follow our laws just like everyone else and he didn’t like it...too bad I say. Again the US could learn from that.

My friend found a few kittens in her backyard and luckily (meaning I finally convinced my parents) I get to keep one that otherwise would have gone to a shelter. I wish I could have helped more and I look forward to when I move out of my parents house, but I’m so happy you’re getting the message out there on your platform!

I used to want a Savannah cat myself because they seem cool, but I was just woefully misinformed. One day I stumbled across a Kitten Lady video and my views have changed. Thank you so much for what you do for kittens, both fostering them and educating people about them! Now I have a new dream to foster kittens. I tried it for the first time a few months ago and although it was exhausting it was so rewarding! Don’t ever stop or lose hope, you are making a big difference in the world!

I could not agree more... people are such hypocrites... Same situation here in Argentina. So heartless. They will never understand the gratitude a rescued animal shows his whole life towards his rescuers. And I would expect a famous person to take advantage of the public status and create conscience about this, instead of setting the example to their (young) herd of followers that the more expensive the animal, the better the love or the looks or whatever... I got my two kitten sisters from a local rescue that fosters kittens. These two are the best cats I could ever ask for and Im so grateful to the rescue that took care of them until I found them. Their names are Nebula and Adeline, and they absolutely love us and each other!

Preach! I learned about savannah cats when I visited the rescue Big Cat rescue in Florida for my birthday where they talked about theses cats and much more.

Maybe he’ll end up paying somebody to play with them...but his fans who cooy him won't have that luxury

You're so right. It's just a status symbol... ironically if he adopted from a shelter and raised some awareness he'd gain more positive status and have saved two lifelong partners from euthanasia.

I did buy my ragdoll kitten from a breeder before I learnt about this. But as soon as I learned I informed everyone I knew was thinking of gifting a cat/dog for the holidays. And those people all got them from shelters. Now I’m still very happy with my kitten but am preparing to work with kittens in shelters as a foster mom.

In my head the only reason to go out to adopt a specific breed is if you have allergies, and even then there's ways to find shelters who have those breeds of cats. There's too many cats on the streets and cats in shelters. When I was little I found the furry love of my life under a bush, and now our two current cats are from a shelter and they're absolutely lovely. Save the animals who are already here first!

I agree. My baby is over two now. I adopted him two years ago this month. He was a shelter cat, and a black cat. The shelter was super surprised that we were taking him home. He had chosen me and I couldn’t walk away from him even though I had wanted a female cat. He had been in the shelter for not even a full 24 hrs and they told me they had expected him to stay there as no one really likes to adopt black kittens (in my area). They thought he was 8 weeks but when I took him to the vet a week later the vet actually suggested he was most likely only 5 weeks or so. He was very very tiny. Now we are the best of buds. Shelter cats rule.

I applaud you for everything you do for these sweet babies! I’ve always wanted to find a way to help all the babies have homes. I would unfortunately be a foster fail cause I get really attached really quickly and I would never want to give them up. Good job!
