Damn, I forgot how aesthetically pleasing Myskina's groundstrokes were. Beautiful backhand.

Really ? I find her groundstrokes really basics and lacking of charisma and identity, her backand's preparation is the most basic and common you will ever faced in men tennis. In term of efficiency she was unable to realize one winner on Clay, that's painfull to watch this lack of power. Jankovic is like a better version of her imo.

The drop in Myskinas level between 2003/4 - 05/06 was pretty shocking....

Justine Henin played very well. I don't like her but she has such a well-rounded game. She had the same consistency as Myskina but could hit better angles and hit a second gear with her groundstrokes to go for winners and be brave when she needed to. LOVE Myskina. Her groundies are beautiful and she can amp it up too, especially her backhand but she played it too safe and sorta hit a bunch of shots in the middle of the court without enough depth. I think even though Henin had Myskina's number a faster service would even the odds more for Myskina. I'm glad she won the FO in 2004 but in this match it's clear who's the superior player, especially on clay.

Quinn Knox no way.. a peak henin facing myskina would give myskina no chance against her.. henin is faster, more aggressive mentality an more power considerably on the forehand Myskinas best chances with henin was 2002-2003.. when henin was very insecure an finding her tempo to her dynamite game.. though myskina was a great mover an a pretty solid two handed backhand that could surprise you .. an she did have some close matches

"Even the odds"?! Even Serena can't beat henin on clay and her serve was insane! Did you see how she dispatches Sharapova on clay, she toys people around from left to right and builds her points like a master tactician. Because clay doesn't give you the benefit of free points like hard court, you need to strategize how to beat an opponent; high balls mixed with low balls, slices to put your opponent off balance etc. etc.

I feel like Myskina’s game was the blue print for what we see now in women’s tennis with... almost every player.

Michael Politakis yeah, we are def entering a counterpunching era because everyone can hit big nowadays. Halep, Svitolina are basically similar players with maybe a little bit more explosive movement, but maybe slightly less variety as Myskina. The newer generation like Coco Gauff are more what I call Power-punchers while inspired by Serena’s athleticism , but have more of a counter-puncher mold, not brut force hitting like Seles, Pierce, Capriati, Davenport, Williamses, Clijsters, etc....players who can athletically get to more balls while being aggressive are more successful.

It's strange that, even though Henin won the French without dropping a set, her victories seemed unconvincing to me. 2006 was such a strange year for Henin, a mix of success and disappointment from reaching every Grand Slam final but only winning one. What could have been.

Her match against Maria was weird, she started off so well and then she "vanished"... Same goes for London, she played a killer set and then her level dropped and mentally she didn't have that typical vicious killer instinct when she's down. Australia I won't consider due to stomach virus.

@@ABC-ABC1234yes very strange 2006.. I expected her to win atleast 2 out of 4 finals that year.. really bad she only got one.. not good statistics for her.. What could have went wrong? Also outside of this her 2007 semifinal lose to Marion Bartoli in London… so strange ….

What a drubbing. Myskina is a poser against the true clay queen. And I can't stand cheater Henin.
