I am 70 years old and just recently stayed with my sister for six weeks. She's a vegetarian and was juicing every day and basically all I had for the six weeks were fruits and vegetables, mostly raw. I noticed that my hair stopped falling out when I combed it out after shampoo and I also noticed a lot of new hair growth at my part and hairline. So diet definitely makes a difference.

Love your authentic approach. I started eating healthier a year ago. Whole foods, no processed foods. I went from washing my hair daily to washing it once every 3 days. Simply because I started noticing that it didn't need to be washed as often. It's shinier, stronger, more hydrated & softer. So it was so refreshing to hear you link nutrition and stress to hair and overall body health. Thanks for being you.

I'm a young 54 and the best thing I ever did was grow out my natural grey/white hair. I did it 2.5 years ago and guess what it suits my skin tone, it's so much healthier and since I've stopped dying my hair it's grown thicker because I'm no longer soaking it in chemicals. I see so many older women who still persist in dying their hair in the belief that it makes them look younger with no idea that their natural colour would not only look great on them but that it would also save them a fortune. I get so many compliments when I'm out about my grey hair from young women wanting to know where I get my "colour" done to older ladies who just want to chat about growing out their own colour. I have my hair trimmed and re-styled every 3 months.

Hi everyone, the biggest impact on my hair has been iron. I had a lot of bleeding (sorry for TMI but women need of know this) on my cycle and it caused my iron to go all the way down, and it impacted the front of my hair. You have to test Ferretin which is your stored iron, not Hemoglobon or an Iron Panel. Only a Ferretin test tells you how much stored iron you have. Mine was all the way down to a 12 out of 100. It should be up at 100. The thing that helped me the most is Heme Iron, it’s a kind of very absorbable iron that I don’t have to worry about upsetting my stomach or not being able to eat with Various foods or drinks. After taking Heme Iron, I got my energy back and the front of my hair is thick again. I also take D and make sure to get D from the sun. Also B Complex, and plenty of other nutrients, protein, collagen etc.

@@justinhickox I call mine ash blonde. Get it, "ash" rather than gray. I always hoped that i would be a freak of nature and not go gray. Good thing is that being naturally blonde, it took awhile to show up and I started coloring it. Menopause has changed my texture though. My hair wavier now than it used to be when I was younger. I was a hairstylist for years and even though I worked with some good stylists, some were NOT good, even after they'd done hair for 20+ years. My tip would be call a salon and ask who is their most talented, busy, best stylist. Book an appointment with her/him to get something small done- like a tiny trim or even a wash & blow out. See if you like their personality/ if you click. Notice if they seem to be paying close attention to detail, if they seem confident but not distracted. This is a great time to ask what they would do as far a color/cut in the future. If you like what's happening, try them out for a while! ❤

I don't understand why people would say anything bad about this video or any other video you've done. If I look at the broader message of what you are trying to say it's that you genuinely care about people's hair. That's what I need. I need someone thinking double time about my hair type. I have tried to learn as much as I can about hair, but there is a lot of information out there and it can be overwhelming. Your videos allow me to learn about different things I can do to help my hair and that's why I love your channel. The knowledge that you share is broken down in a clear and logical manner that is easy to digest and implement. I guess there's always going to be people that take offense at someone saying they're making mistakes with their hair, but I don't think they are hearing your broader message which (again) is that you care about people's hair and you're only trying to make their hair be the best it can be.

I stopped coloring a few years ago and am fully gray now. I find that putting oil makes my hair softer and appear a bit darker which I like. And I'm taking Omega 3 for my eyes and using olive and avocado oil for cooking to see if it will benefit my hair too. Seems like we lose oil and water as we age and have to replenish it a lot to keep up. Thank you for your tips! I'm going to use just my flat iron from now on.

As I have gotten older (I am 60 now) my hair, which used to be terribly thick and wavy, has gotten much thinner and finer. You can see my scalp now. I used to wear bangs, but the weird receding hairline of aging was starting to become problematic. So I grew out my bangs and currently wear a side part, wedged stacked bob. The front is about 2" below my chin. I am also very gray and completely white on the sides from my ears forward, so I color my hair light brown. I will be retiring soon and afterwards I would like to go naturally gray and shorter. I would like to see a video on shorter hair styles for older women that work for thin and fine hair with a receding hairline above the temples.

Just came across your Channel. Totally agree with about stress, my hair was always thick and bouncy but about 15vyrs ago I had a whole amount of stress going on in my life, weight dropped dramatically and my hair went bolt straight and thin, it was breaking off in clumps but luckily not at the scalp, my hairdresser styled my hair in the Rachael cut but kept it layered to hide the breakage. Now thankfully no worries or stress my hair is still fine but I have a lot of it......the fineness now is probably more to do with the menopause. Loved your video, your back drop is stunning ❤

I’m a licensed cosmetologist in California. Also important when speaking about products is any time you use a hot tool or blow dryer is to use a heat protecting spray. Next, I can attest on nutrition! I also have a medical background. I had a new client come in. She and her husband were older. I was shampooing her hair and I literally had a huge clump of her hair. So without adding stress or her freaking out, I calmly asked if she had changed her diet or was on medication. Her husband had some health issues and he decided to become vegan so she joined him. Neither did research on how to do it or met with a nutritionist. So I discreetly showed her the amount of hair loss she had and said she needed to consult with someone or she would be pretty close to bald at the rate it was falling out. Nutrition is our foundation to everything in our life.

Thank you for the tips, the lack of products is my mistake personally. I will use more. My tip is to use semi- permanent colour instead of permanent. I'm a 7, matched at a salon, I buy my own now and just replace my own colour. My hair has improved greatly since I started doing that. I'm 48 and have silver threads (I call them that).

@@milliem8051 hi Millie, you might just ask your hairdresser about using a gloss. I find that it works well to coat the hair leaving a nice shine. Shiney will just fool the look, as it won't look so dry & corse.

you are so right that nutrition and stress are probably some of the most important factors in the health of our hair. I'm nearly 8 months now after stopping coloring my hair dark brown. I decided not to lighten or put any more chemicals on my hair. I improved my nutrition by focusing more on my protein intake, increased my vitamin D every day, added B6, and increased my iron to twice a day. I previously had hair loss for several years and since November when I started those changes my hair loss almost completely resolved to normal now. I think for women especially over 40, people cut back on diet to maintain their weight and simply don't get enough iron and protein. Of course hormone balance is key as well but nutrition and coping with stress were key for me.

I discovered, quite by accident, when I started using a Shea moisture shampoo and conditioner containing apple cider vinegar, my gray hair turned very pretty golden blonde, a very similar color that I was born with. Even better, because the shampoo and conditioner basically run down into your eyebrows, your eyelashes, the hairs on your face, and even the hairs on your arm turn out to be the same color. It’s probably the acetic acid found in the vinegar, that caused this to happen. I just turned 65 and I no longer have any gray hair, and I don’t need to color my hair at all. Also a very good moisturizer to use on your hair after you clean it, is just a very small amount of broccoli seed oil rubbed into your scalp and hair before using the blow dryer or hot iron.

Wow Laura Stern, you are a super lucky gal to have the right color hair that goes so well with the apple cider vinegar discovery/trick!😀 I remember my cousin using it when we were kids for her blonde hair after swimming in the pool to neutralize the green chlorine effect and also smooth the hair cuticles and helps detangle it! Enjoy your youthful non-colored blonde hair! 👱‍♀️

As a mature women I found my hair got dry easily as I aged. I wear my hair long and find that not using any heat sources on my hair and not shampooing very often keeps my hair moist, smooth and silky. I have some natural wave so my hair has lots of body. Other than that I comb my hair and style it each day. Pretty easy care.

Justin, I don’t know if you’ll be reading my comment but here it is. I’m 70 years young, 5”1”, petite frame but overweight mostly due to previous physical problems that I had surgeries for but no good fix. I’m doing physical therapy to help me get stronger and lighter. My hair color and texture is much like yours. I’m also a retired hairdresser from way back in the 60’s and 70’s. You know what that means. Back combing, and lots of it. I’ve mostly had very short hair because I grayed early. Now it’s the color of yours and at a little below chin length. I have a round face and with being overweight, short hair just makes my face look fuller unless I spike it. I should tell you that I live in a small farming community area where most people, including all the hairstylists wear conservative styles if any at all. I’ve never been afraid to look different but I don’t want to look crazy in an area where people are still wearing past hairstyles, but, I need help. I don’t mind buying good products but I don’t have my license anymore either. This particular video was so on point regarding nutrition and stress that it was a complete wake up call. I learned this years ago but due to everything that it going on with my physical abilities and around the world, I allowed myself to become so stressed out that I neglected one of the major things to keep myself healthy. I used to walk miles every day but not anymore due to being overweight and physical problems. Not the correct way to handle a problems. I’m pretty sure I can correct my hairstyle but I want to thank you so much for advising those of us who have allowed outside stress to control our actions whether it be nutrition or exercise to get going in the right direction. We are given only one body so we better take care of it. Your tips, energy, the scenery, and encouragement have helped me and I’m sure many others. God Bless you and yours. Much love, Vicki❤️

Stress for sure. At 29 I started experiencing alopecia areata and every doctor said work related stress. I was working out daily and eating well to no avail. Its been 2 years and it was a long journey that was more mental health than products. The regrowth is very kinky and coarse where original my hair is fine and straight. Now I'm seeing more age related changes. This was super helpful! Loved the scenery.

I love the settings for his videos. I’m sixty-six with waist length, gray(ish) hair. Even though it defies his advice, I wear it long with pride and joy. Yes, my hair has become drier but not it’s thickness. I said all that to say this, I’d like to see more vintage ladies, such as myself, rocking long hair and embracing their gray. So many stylists, when they get someone like me in their chair, just want to cut and color. Well, some of us don’t want to cut and color. We just want advice on how to maintain our drier long hair.

I just discovered your channel and I am smitten and enthralled! I have a slew of questions! I have naturally curly hair, have I said enough? Everyone wants volume and I am constantly trying to tell my hair to relax. I look like overgrown shrubbery! I've tried deva curl, I am 57, I am not flipping my head over, this makes me dizzy....One side is curlier than the other, my hair grows down over my face. I am not kidding! I have a small widows peak, and a sausage type curl that will grown straight down the center of my face. I hate my hair, always have. Think Robert Plant early Led Zeppelin. I have never had a decent curly haircut. Anyway, I am done now. Thanks for reading.

In 2011, my dad passed away and I dealt with it badly: although I was eating very healthy, I was in an extreme calorie deficit and was over-exercising to the extreme to "deal" with my loss. By 2012, my previously thick hair had turned into a thin ghost of it's former self. Stress most definitely plays a huge roll. ten years, and I'm still walking around with thin, coarse, dry hair I have no idea how to do anything with. It's depressing, but I'm going to try some of your tips! My mother gracefully grayed in cool tones as well. It was/is gorgeous. My hair first lost its auburn tone to a warm brown. Now I see hairs fading from medium warm brown through warm blonde to a translucent white. The white isn't predominant enough yet to be very noticeable, unless I'm under very bright lights. My stylists rave about how beautifully and evenly I'm losing color. I'm glad because several years ago I became allergic to even semipermanent dyes. My hair has also become curlier and I've had to learn to manage frizzies, which is somewhat difficult because I forget to use beauty products (including makeup). Social distancing and masks haven't helped this tendency...

That last tip also applies to skin, not only hair. People are buying expensive face creams thinking that will fix their skin problems, when truly all you need to start with, is eating healthier, drink plenty of water, exercise, sleep well and be in open air as often as you can and that's going to make huuuge difference in how your skin/hair/body will look like. Thanks for the video! :)
