Any information shared is always worthwhile. You explaining HOW to cut hair doesn’t mean I’m going to stop going to a stylist, it just helps me to better COMMUNICATE with a stylist.

As a former cosmetologist, I think it’s good that you teach clients how to work with their hairstyles. So often people complain that they can never achieve the same look at home that they get in the salon. Your videos have taught me a lot. And your wife has even inspired me to cut my long hair shorter. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

I'm surprised by the comment posted by that hairstylist. Now, I can't speak for everyone, but for myself, your videos made me realize that I wasn't thrilled with my hairstylist or my hairstyle. I thought I was communicating what I wanted, but every time I left, I wanted to cry. She was a wonderful person, but I just wasn't equipped with the right communication tools to express myself and so she kept giving me the same haircut. Finally, during covid, I called a different hair salon. I won't lie, I was scared. Hairstylists can be very intimidating. But they were so kind! The stylist asked me a lot of questions (no one else had ever done that)! Thanks to your videos, I was able to tell and then show her some ideas that I liked. She was so nice. She respected my wishes about keeping a certain length and since my grey was showing, and the ends were turning redish, she came up with a solution to save me from having to get color every 6 weeks. Anyway, recently, you had a video where you talked about texturizing. I went last week and asked her about maybe shortening my hair, adding bangs (I had pictures), and texturizing. She lit up! She said she could do a little or a lot depending on how I liked it! I'm already talking too much, but I ended up telling her to go for it since I trust her now! But I got ALL of my ideas and my nerve to speak up from watching your videos and taking notes! This last haircut is amazing! I love it! Most and EVERY stylist I have been to have never taken the time ti explain to me what they were doing, so my style never looked right when I styled it myself. Keep doing what you are doing!

Please, please, please continue to show me how to fix my hair myself! Even if I spend a fortune at a hairdresser’s, if I don’t know how to get the look at home, it’s not going to look good. I, as many women, have walked out of a salon frustrated with not knowing what to do at home to get the look I want. A stylist has limited time while I’m in the chair, that time is consumed with whatever they are doing that day. There’s little time, if any, for them to have me style my own hair while in their chair. Bottom line if my hair looks good and someone comes up to me and asks who cuts my hair then I’m promoting the stylist. My hairdresser has asked me to send videos like yours before my appointment. She told me videos like yours help her to improve her technique when cutting hair. Because she already has training, she is able to implement your techniques and get a great cut. It’s also great to watch how you instruct the client how to style at home. My hairdresser does take time to show me how to style at home, but with her limited time, she can’t take 20 minutes to do step-by-step instructions. I’ve watched several of your videos and find them very helpful to learn to style at home. I think most women (at least) would love to be able to share one of your videos with their hairstylist instead of trying to explain exactly what they want and coming out of their appointment frustrated that they didn’t get the cut they wanted because of miscommunication. I know my stylist greatly appreciated when I shared a video with her on how I wanted my hair cut😊

As a cosmetologist myself over 30 years, I appreciate the opportunity always for continuing education that you and some of the other professionals provide in your content. I have picked up a few helpful tips along the way. As far as it hurting the industry, 1, not a lot of people attempt to do their own hair cuts at home ( at least ones I know) and 2., a lot of what I learned in hair school was for the license exam. The really useful practical experience I got was on the salon floor after I finished school.

Insecure with their abilities as stylist. They don’t want their clients to have knowledge of what may work best for them. They seem to forget that they are there to provide a paid service to clients. I’ve depended on hairdressers for over 50 years. Most of my experience has been that most stylists are not concerned that I would like for my hair to look great for more than the day the stylist does it. I think they forget that if I can duplicate the style at home, then I will be quick to acknowledge the stylist and the salon when someone compliments my hair. -- which happens alot now. I have been watching your videos for a couple of years now and I still get regular haircuts and have the same stylist that I have had for about ten years. These videos have allowed me to better communicate with my stylist. There's always someone with a chip on their shoulder that wants to be critical. I LOVE that you get technical! It shows us non-stylists the "why and how-to" so much better than just a video showing how a pro like you can get the right look 👍 Admittedly as a DIYer for my very fine/thin hair, I've learned SO much from watching your videos... I've yet to find a stylist who truly has given me a good cut/style. I appreciate all the details you share, especially for styling aging hair. I’m 58, stopped coloring my hair 5 years ago and am still most comfortable with longer hair. I found this video really helpful as a "client" who has a concave bob haircut. I have very fine hairs but a whole lot of them that make me look as though I have thick hair. I am also very curly at the back. In response to your question at the end of the video......I personally find all the information you provide regarding professional haircutting and styling techniques super helpful as a consumer. Knowledge is always a good thing! I'm 54 years old and I have noticed a huge difference in the way individual stylists and colourists have approached my hair, and the varying outcomes over the many years I have been getting my hair done by professionals. Many of the tips you share make a whole lot of sense to me, and I'm very glad that you share them online. Please don't stop! If I may, would you comment on my personal preference for an under-cut at the back of my head? I have found this to be a wonderful thing and yet there have been many stylists who have outright refused to do it for me.

This is excellent! Now I know how to treat my cowlick. Your instructions do not hurt stylists. I can help my hairstylist know about what I want, not just saying "I'll let you do what YOU think I need" - been there, done that and never completely happy. 2. lmaoooo. I watch SO many technical hair videos on KZfaq but I still go back to my hair stylist when I want a cut or bleach. I've mastered my semi-perm colour at home and my stylist encourages me to do it. She knows it's costly to come to her for it since semi-perm fades out so quick and I'm dedicated to keeping it bright. She says she loves it because I take such good care of it so it helps her work last longer out in the world too. Teaching people how on KZfaq is not as demonic as this person is making it out to be. I still do and always will go back to my stylist. Videos like this just help in between when I don't want to bug my stylist but also want to learn a new way to style my hair or "troubleshoot" a problem I'm having with it.

You are not off base at all and I’m afraid this is probably a beautician who doesn’t listen to her clients. I run into this a lot, and I've gone through a lot of hairstylist because they will not communicate with me. You show a picture. Tell them what you want in detail. They shake their head with no discussion about your hair type and lifestyle and then do what they want. One of the main reasons I watch your videos to get more education so that I can talk to the beautician and we are on the same page. I'm not trying to tell the beautician how to do their job which some of them interpret it as that. Believe me at 60 with thinning gray hair it has been very hard to find a beautician who will work with me

Justin I’ve been watching you for a while. Years! First off, as of this year, I just retired as a stylist. I love all your tips and have used them. I would have no problem educating my clients in taking care of their hair. I feel that they love that. And part of most stylists is product sales. And it makes it easy to provide that extra info to go along with that. A bonus service. Win win! Second, I wear my hair in a bob just like this. And love all the tips you just gave. I think it’s super helpful the way you explain everything. When you leave the salon with a fun new haircut and style it can be very frustrating when you go home and you can never get it to look that way again. As a stylist of forty years (and still going) I appreciate the way that you teach your clients how to achieve the looks at home! I always try to show them how to style their hair at home. Just like us learning at a class, if they retain one thing we teach them, they are ahead of the game.

This video was so helpful to me! I've always struggled using my flat iron, and now I know exactly why. Also, yesterday I just got all my hair cut off into a shoulder length angled bob. My stylist sent me out with a very precise, very straight look (my actual hair is fine and wavy), and I looked you up specifically for tips on styling it myself. You are not hurting the industry you have helping the consumers gain knowledge into what they want, what to ask for and helping us learn how to style our hair after we get our hair done in the salons. I respect that as a consumer I’ve never had my hairstylist go the extra mile into teaching me how to style or care for my hair after I get it done.

As another poster said, just because you give such great instruction on now to style and work with various hairstyles and types certainly doesn't mean I will stop going to a salon. Not every stylist takes the time to SHOW you how to dry and style your hair. I really appreciate your videos and find them extremely helpful❤

I go to my stylist for the cut and the color. This information that you have provided is to help ME while at home and is invaluable! My stylist just does not have the time to walk this through to me step by step and this helps me to understand the styling process. Keep up the good work!

You’re not off base - it’s fascinating watching these videos and makes us more educated consumers. Not only that but it benefits the hairstylists who watch these and gain more knowledge. Keep doing what you’re doing and thank you !

I so appreciate what you share. I’m trying to grow my hair out from a short pixie to a short bob. I’m nearly grown out enough where now I need a trim/cut for the actual style. But watching how to brush my hair to get the best shine and look is so appreciated always!

Your information is very helpful. Please continue. As a client, it is helpful to understand what goes into a cut, so I can style it at home myself. One of my pet peeves is when stylist cuts and styles my hair when I cannot watch in a mirror to see what they’re doing. When they’re done they spin the chair around and tell me how amazing I look! I’m not impressed and just think…I sure wish I knew what you did it. I love your channel. Keep it up! You’ve helped me so much!

I loved how you had her doing some of the styling while you were there. Then you can see what we normally do and make pointers. I would never stop going to my stylist, she does an amazing job and you help with in between appointments.

I am a stylist. I also explain to my clients. This is a gift to the client. When they have a better understanding of the process they are better able to recreated the “look” on a daily basis. This has created a large client base for me as well as providing great resources of referrals. Keep doing what you’re doing. You make a difference, and you are raising the bar !

Omg… I love your content. I have very thin fine hair and I have lost a lot of it on my crown. My hair is cut to a bob but I don’t know how to style it. This has helped me out so much. Keep giving us information on how to style our hair, products to use, and how to actually use a flat iron and a blow comb. I look forward to every video you put out and it is helped me tremendously and makes me feel less self-conscious on how to style my thin hair. Please ignore the haters. They’re just jealous that you are so talented and helpful. I also have questions on what type of brush I should use on very thin fine hair that won’t pull out what’s left.
