As a reseller myself, I can tell you that even the high end brands, and some really heavy duty soles will fall apart due to age and not wearing them. ..You'd never see it coming, either. It happened to me personally with a pair of Danskos, of all shoes, that I kept for myself and a pair of very high end and in mint condition pair of boots. Both soles crumbled. The Dansko's were a molded bottom, not of wood and the boots cracked and crumbled one day. I knew both were due to materials and loss of strength and flexibility. Both shoes looked brand new. If it didn't happen to me, I'd never believe it. Now I know shoes can do some crazy things when you buy them second hand.

Hey Justin. As a reseller of clothing I can attest that sometimes new shoes come undone. I sold a pair of nwt shoes that had the stickers and tags attached. When the customer got them the soles had come unglued from the summer heat. I could clearly see the shoes were mine. I refunded the buyer and told them to keep them or toss them. Didn't make sense to send them back. I would refund all of the money just because you do so well and one refund won't hurt you

It's people like yourself who are part of the problem. Sure it is what is part of business but does it have to be that way. Absolutely not people can make a change they just refuse to stand up and it's people like yourself who only want to do what we have to already do but gives up to make any changes. Sellers could easily stand up and make ebay change their guidelines and finally stick up for sellers. If we keep getting people like your self who easily give in and only stare in a straight line then we all failed.

@Fizggig
@Fizggig 4 ай бұрын
@ilvean3122 there needs to be seller protection as well. Ebay gives a rats ass about sellers. Sure you could have wore the shoe 1 day and it fell apart but like he said he's not the company. Buying something brand new from the actual company is very different then buying something pre owned from some random dude on ebay. Maybe there needs to be an expectation set right up front. This seller doesn't offer refunds and ebay actual honor that. What's the point of them even having that on the listings? Sure if I bought something and it broke I would be pissed off. Then this is where ebay comes in not the seller. If they want to protect their customers to keep coming back then they invest don't put it on the seller. Also it should be a case by case situation. In this situation the dude sent photos he did what he needed to. Ebay needs to stick up when things are actually not in the side of the seller. This buyer legit showed a photo of the shoe covered in mud it seems he's in construction. He probably did something to the shoe while he was working maybe it was an accident but the seller should not be responsible for that. Especially since they are super used.

Dry rot in shoes is a thing and it looks like that from the pictures. I’d refund 100% (including shipping) because that is what those pictures look like to me. Dry rot happens even if the item looks brand new. Plus, since they are hiking boots - the guy should be able to hike in them. I don’t think this is improper use causing the separation, it’s the condition you sent them in.

Hey Justin! I enjoy watching your channel, you offer a lot of knowledge and good information. In regards to the Justin boots, I can give you a little information of my own. I own a shoe repair shop and a lot of times you will see new, unworn/ old stock items with the soles falling off or crumbling. It doesn’t have so much to do with the manufacturer, but more so the age of the items and the type of material that the sole is made out of. If they have sat there long enough time and oxidation can do their damage, especially if they have gone unworn. Basically like dry rot. Whenever I’m footwear thrifting I always pick at the sole a little bit to make sure they won’t crumble or you can flex the ball of the foot and see if cracking is starting to happen. You can also pull on the sole a little bit to see if the glues have lost their adhesiveness. I hope this helps for future footwear thrifting.
@arkylady

I worked in a thrift store for awhile and we had a lot of issues with shoes. I think if they are stored in the heat for a long time, the glue gets kind of dry rotted and the soles will just start coming right off.

Saw the Herman Miller chair. Love them. If you did not know, they come in 3 sizes, A,B, & C. The size can be determined by the number of stars you feel between the top of the chair and the mesh. Mine has 3 in a triangle pattern, mean a C, the largest. Most are B with 2. This is important when you get replacement parts later., particularly the mesh and trays.

This one here you have : is it from the 1990s ? 1980s ? 2000s ? It sure is not from the 1960s. There are so so so many lava lamps listed you wanna cut thru the chase . "Vintage Lava Lamp Vintage Spencer Gifts 198os Era" . "Late 1980s" . I even go as far as "Vintage lava Lamp 1984-1987 era". When I KNOW it's not from the 1960s OR 1990s.

I've bought black leather/suede Skechers Shape-Ups for work over several years, even after they discontinued making/selling them. At that point I bought them off of eBay and even though some were new in the box, parts of the shoe would disintegrate after the first or second wear. I was told by a few people that dry rot happens with certain types of plastic and rubber compounds and that some Skechers, some Danskos and one other brand I've forgotten do this after quite a few years, even when they've never been worn. So maybe that's what happened to these boots?

Refund for the boots because you know that you are not the type of guy who wouldn't do what you know is right even if there is a policy that protects you from having to do it. Dry rot is def a thing with leather. I found a nice wallet at the thrift store. It was in pristine condition. By the time I got it home it had little chunks coming off of it. Discovered that any handling at all was breaking chunks off the edges near the sew line. I'm glad I didn't sell it to someone.

I notice that your review of the week has (!) behind a few things. Is there any bulk way to remove them on the Beta? I have the same issue and have to manually go in and make sure the missing data is filled in. Keep up the good work, I do see the same uptick right now on eBay. My sense of this is that “New” condition does not mean dry rotted. If I bought dry rotted boots at Dick’s or somewhere, I would be furious. Seems like “new” or “open box” doesn’t really belong in the same sentence as “this disintegrated on day one.” I would probably refund. I think it’s important to remember that each customer doesn’t have access to your back catalog of refund decisions, so there’s no “record” for them to appeal to. It’s just your judgment and sense of things.

When i see a high price tag at my thrift store it just means my thrift store employees are ridiculous. My thrift store marks up lucky brand jeans to $24.99 and miss me jeans are $38, no I'm not joking........ Interestingly i got an arcteryx jacket at the same store for $8 🤦‍♂️

I would refund the boots. Flipwise looks amazing! I just watched a video of yours about it. I went straight in to sign up and says invite only. I submitted my email for when they are accepting more users.

The boots were probably stored in high heat/cold for an extended period, even though they were "new" and/or it was a manufacturer's defect. It's a tough case but I have a hard time agreeing with the notion that you should eat all of the cost for that. Even when buying something new on eBay buyers know it's a roll of the dice to one extent or another because it's not being bought through an official retailer of the item, thanks to that there's usually a discount in price. From the photo it looks like he treated them rough right out of the box without even trying to break them in. I'd stick to your return policy and charge them some amount for having a hand in ruining the shoes. You could then try to see if Justin shoes honors a warranty if they have one that applies to you. Worst case you get a negative feedback but this is highly overrated IMHO. You can reply with a comment with your side of the story and ask for it to be removed if it seems malicious if it comes to that. One negative feedback out of hundreds of positives isn't going to hurt you.

Sounds like those shoes had dry rot. There was no way for the buyer to know, and as they say, buyer beware, but that said I would give the full refund and tell the buyer to go ahead and throw them out. I aim to make my customers happy and I know I wouldn’t be happy if I bought shoes that only lasted one day and I was still out some money. As someone else said, chalk it up to the cost of doing business and move on. You might even get a repeat customer out of it because now he knows you’re trustworthy and go above and beyond to do good business.

Not that I don’t believe him but I had so many people trying to return ítems that you know they were not the same you sent them that I stop offering returns. Some people just buy the same item and then try to swap with yours and get their money back.

I would have him return the boots and give him a full refund. But if just the soul came apart, they made glue that will fix that. Then you can at least sell them as used

if you feel they are the same boots you sold him you should give him a full refund. probably manufactured several years ago. I've also sold shoes that feel apart, dry rot, stored in heat, ect.

Sorry the Justin Boots were defective. I would accept a return and offer a full refund. You can offer to refund half to cover repairs if he is open to keeping the boots. You said they are your boots. I wouldn't even want to pay to get them back.I rarely choose that option but boots are an expensive return and I eat my mistakes (although mistakes are pretty rare LOL).. I would absorb the loss as just a part of doing business. FYI: I have had shoes new in the box fall apart when I tried them on before purchasing at an estate sale. Dry rot thread. I have had Nike shocks where the glue is dry and soles pull off. I have had rubber soles crack and pieces fall off. Dry rot. Shoes can look new but as the age they get dry...just like us. Not his fault. Not your fault. Who pays on this one. You do.

With the boots i would give full refund. I wouldn't bother managing the return since the boots are ruined. I would just mark it up as a cost of doing business. We sell a lot of things as "new" - but we don't REALLY know the provenance of the items we sell, so the give and take there is that we have to flexible when the product doesn't live up to expectations.
