If you remember in Episode I, when Qui Gon discovers how force sensitive Anakin is, the Jedi council is hesitant because Anakin is already much older than the age of which Younglings begin their Jedi training. They were trying to avoid this very issue of Anakin having emotional attachment, something which the Younglings don’t have since they’re trained at a much younger age, and that parental role is fulfilled by their assigned Jedi master. That was what Qui Gon was supposed to be for Anakin, but was left to Obi Wan after Qui Gon was killed (hence: Duel of the Fates). And while they had a very strong relationship, Obi Wan was ill prepared to take on the role and assumed more of a brotherly relationship, which left Anakin emotionally unfulfilled
@topheavykoolaid
@topheavykoolaid 2 ай бұрын
I wonder if a better strategy would’ve been to assign new Jedi Younglings to much older retired Jedi so that if they die naturally it’s upsetting, but maybe easier to accept as a natural separation, then reassign them to younger masters when they go on assignments

I agree. I always think that on Episode 1, Darth Maul went to Tattoine to actually keep Qui-gon from getting Anakin. Or it's the other way around, making sure that Anakin would join them and while they can harm his mother.

Ahhhh but this was the inherent flaw of the Jedi: to ask intelligent, emotional living beings to constantly suppress themselves when it is an impossible thing to do. To ask someone to be unfeeling yet selfless and altruistic leads to darkness and ultimately brings out the worst traits in oneself. If you want a generalized view of the Jedi/Sith you can break it down to the Jedi believe in suppressing one’s passions while the Sith are all about fully embracing it. Neither side is totally right in their philosophy and the true answer is about having balance in oneself aka a “Grey Jedi”, a Jedi who was neither completely light or dark. A good example of this was Ahsoka, Anakin’s apprentice.
@fisher3317
@fisher3317 5 күн бұрын
@@patrickdoss25 I feel like in the original trilogy, Luke is pretty much the ultimate evidence of how unnecessary the Jedi's ultra dogmatic ways were. He grew up in a normal family without any exposure to Jedi teachings until he was much older and, despite still having flaws, was more well adjusted than Anakin and had healthy attachments to his sister and friends (as opposed to how unhealthy Anakin's attachment was to Padme), and all but proving the Jedi wrong about bringing someone back from the Darkside being impossible.

The reason Yoda is so much more nimble when he fights is he is actually using the force to puppet his own body around. When he is just using his own muscles he needs the cane and such.

@@DaelinD: If so then why wouldn't Yoda just be nimble all the time? Then he'd get to show off more CGI. Like how does what you are saying have anything to do with what I said? They thought the plot reason was that Yoda was faking it, I said what the plot reason was. So how is "actually that is wrong, Lucas wanted to play with CGI"? Ok? And? If someone wondered how the Death Star moves around within the narrative of the plot, and I said "it just uses hyperdrive to get around", would you respond with something like "not at all. Lucas wanted to play with ship models"? What is your point?

Fun Fact: While Christopher Lee was an expert fencer (even at the age of 79), he didn't know the first thing about katanas (which lightsabers are meant to be handled as). So they designed his lightsaber hilt to allow him to handle it like a rapier. Also, the movie theater crowd went bananas when Yoda walked in to fight.

Another fact about Christopher Lee, he is related to American General Robert E Lee, who was Confederate General during 1861 to 1865 American Civil War (war between the states).

@@papalotapuss995No. Jedi are taken from their parents at a very young age for a reason. It’s so they don’t have that attachment. Exactly what we see with Anakin and his mother is the entire reason they didn’t want to train him to begin with. They knew how strong he was, but he also had an extreme attachment to his mother because he was too old when he left home. The Jedi don’t bring families with them, why would they make an exception for Anakin when it goes against their entire teaching principal? On top of that, how exactly should Qui Gon have taken his mother? Kill her slaver or just steal her? They didn’t have the money to buy her, and they don’t just murder and steal. There was no way for Qui Gon to get his mother and even if he could have, it goes against their rules for recruiting Padawan.

It’s crazy how y’all are able to pick up on character motivations and story choices that took the general fandom 15+ years to finally acknowledge and appreciate. Fun fact, the soundtrack in the first film in the Darth Maul fight, “Duel of the Fates” is a meant to represent the fate to decide how Anakin will grow up. Either with Qui Gon who really knows what he needs to be good and then from evil or Obi Wan, who only takes on the mentor role like Hannah said, as a debt to his master. I hope y’all react to at least some of the Clone Wars TV show. They story telling in that is insane.

You know the bounty hunter’s son is Boba Fett right? The bounty hunter who takes frozen Han to Jabba the Hutt. Same armor too, he just gives it a green paint job. Also when Yoda fights he is using the force to go fast and jump around, it’s exhausting, hence why when he isn’t fighting he is slow and uses the stick.

- Jango Fett is a Mandalorian, a culture in the Star Wars universe that is based on fighting and developing yourself to be the best warrior you can be. The Mando'ade welcome most species, all one must do is accept the Creed. The armor that Jango wears is Mandalorian made from Beskar, which it light and strong, and only the Mando'ade have the secrets to forge it. Kind of like the adamantium of Wolverine's claws and skeleton in X-Men. Jango's son, if you missed his name, is Boba Fett...the bounty hunter who took Han Solo to Jabba the Hutt, and fell into the Sarlacc pit. Clan Fett had a long and proud lineage among the Mando'ade, but fell before the Prequel Trilogy. - The Clone Troopers are all created from Jango, but are grown and fight for the Republic. - The reason why Mace Windu's lightsaber is purple is two-fold. 1) Samuel L. Jackson asked George Lucas if it could be purple, because he wanted to see where he was in long shots. 2) In the lore, Mace was such a powerful Jedi that he could skirt the dark side of the Force without falling to it. What happens when you mix the colors of red and blue...you get purple. - Ash, you are right about Count Dooku's saber. Where most sabers were built along the lines of seeing the Jedi like samurai (since Akira Kurosawa films were a big influence on the series), when Sir Christopher Lee was hired, George discovered that he had a fully trained fencing master playing Count Dooku. As a result, Dooku's saber is more fit for a single hand, with greater control, and precision in landing blows. It is more like a fencing saber, foil, or epee than a katana. - One thing to always remember, the Force always seeks balance. With Anakin there is a chance of the balance to happen...not giving spoilers...but there are things set in the lore beyond what is in the films that explain things further. - Obi-wan was not meant to take on Anakin, the way that Anakin would never have turned is if Qui-Gon Jinn had lived. Hannah was completely right. The key to this is the battle between Qui-Gon, Darth Maul, and Obi-Wan...the music under their fight, composed by John Williams, was titled "Duel of the Fates". It was a duel over Anakin's fate. Qui-Gon would have been a fatherly master, but with Obi-Wan...Anakin got a big brother. They both cared for each other, but Obi-Wan, as powerful and smart as he was, was unequal to the task of training Anakin. He lacked the wisdom that Qui-Gon had. - Hannah...you need to dress up as Padme for the last of the Prequels, Revenge of the Sith.

Ash, you're still not getting it. You can't coddle a child into being a Jedi, which is like being a warrior priest. They have to be fearless. A guy like Anakin is just too emotional and full of fear for those he loves. A guy like Anakin should never be trained to be a Jedi. They were just too intrigued by his potential and the way he seemed to fit some kind of prophecy. Yoda knew better, but was ignored. Yoda also felt, less strongly, that Luke was similarly unqualified, and Luke, for all of his similarities to his father, is a lot stronger than Anakin. Yoda still thought Luke was wrong for this. He wasn't right that time, but he had the same right ideas, and he was right about Anakin. One way or another, Anakin was way too vulnerable to being turned to the dark side--much more so than Luke.

Betrayed by his father and his own feelings, since Vader was now aware of Leia, and with his friends and loved ones apparently on the brink of defeat and death, Luke could have given in, feeling the power of his white-hot hatred flowing through him, but ultimately he could not be turned. It is difficult to compare the two characters and situations directly, but all things considered, Luke seems stronger and more resolute to me. While I'm sure he had a healthy ego by the time he had completed his Jedi training, he wasn't naturally an egotistical narcisist (let's face it) like Anakin. I understand for Anakin and what he was put through, but he was always a prime candidate for turning to the dark side, which Yoda had worried about since he was just a cute little kid. In addition, he was a would-be, quite possibly a wannabe dictator, himself, while Luke is not. I just can't imagine Luke falling into the same trap, even if he were in the same situation. He had some of Anakin's weaknesses, but not all of them, and not as severe. He might have been tempted, but he would not have turned.

Qui-Gon was the father figure Anakin needed. Obi-Wan is the brother figure that Anakin got. Senator Palpatine had become Anakin's father figure - a bad father figure who fed Anakin's ego. FUN FACT: Actor Christopher Lee (Count Dooku) was an expert swordsman who knew his swords. The curved hilt sword he used is a Barong sword. Lee wanted his lightsaber combat style to be like the Tausug. The Tausug people use those Barong swords.

The Jedi could have freed her. Anakin could have freed her, bought her or whatever but the Jedi stopped him and threatened him to kick him out the Jedi order. If they had helped him free his mom, he wouldn't have been so tilted about the Jedi. All the doubts come from that alone. Over time, he came to despise them. Once she died, his goal was to become the most powerful to change things and the Jedi order. This got him in conflict with the Jedi order, which punished him again and again, making him more and more tilted. At the same time, be had the sith influencing him. Had the Jedi helped him from the get go, he would have been less confrontational and more thankful, with Palpatine's influence not working. It was all the jedi's fault, with major help from the sith. Little context for you guys: The Jedi traditionally aren't allowed to have any worldly attachments. They aren't allowed to marry or have families. Which is why they only choose force sensitive children from a very young age - usually 3 or 4 - to become Jedi padawans. Anakin was 9 years old and already had an attachment to his mother which is why the Jedi council were vehemently against it. Only because of Obi-Wan's stubbornness because of the promise he made to Qui-Gon at the time of his death is the reason the Jedi gave in - and also because they felt maybe Anakin might fulfill the prophecy.... So Anakin was one of the few Padawans they made an exception for. But you can already see how / why it was turning out to be a mistake. Because of his refusal to let go of his attachments is exactly what led him to the Dark Side.

Trust me if they all had wives you would see so much more darkness and betrayal.

39:34 YES! THANK YOU, YOU GET IT. Too many people gloss over the true tragedy of Anakin's character. He's a slave his entire life. First as Watto's, then he's a slave to the Jedi, being expected to fulfill their ancient prophecy and give everything to the Jedi cause in return, and then finally he ends up a slave to the Emperor. Only in his final minutes talking to Luke is the man ever truly free: "I've got to save you-" "You already have."

So much of the downfall of this saga is about honour and emotion clashing around fixed systems. Anakin was an anomaly from conception to death. Tragic indeed.

The son of Jango Fett (the bounty hunter) is called Boba Fett, who is the bounty hunter in the original Trillogy, who takes Han Solo to Jabba the Hutt and falls into the sarlacc pit Inbetween Episode 2 and 3 the animated clone wars series is set where Anakin matures over 3 to 4 years while fighting in the war

I’ve never thought of what’d be like for a former slave like Anakin to say Master to someone after being freed from slavery. Great insight, Ash.
