Uttarayana means Winter Solstice, yet we celebrate it 24 days later than the actual solstice day.
I have explained quite simplistically the concepts of:
1. Zodiac
2. Equinox
3. Precession / Wobble
4. Precession of the Equinox
5. Tropical and Sidereal Zodiacs
6. Main difference between the Zodiacs
Here lies the answer to the those who believe that Jyotisha shastra is wrong because of the discrepancy seen in Uttarayana dates. Few people bother to go into details, due to the technicality of astronomy and astrology. Here is a simple guide to those concepts which dictate these dates of solstice and equinoxes. I have contrasted the western science and astrology with the Indian one.

Gregorian calendar doesn’t compensate for the shift in equinox or solstices. They just compensate the 0.2422 days difference each year (365 days vs the actual 365.2422 days) by adding 1 day each year divisible by 4. This overcompensates the difference, so they skip years divisible by 100, but continue to add a day if the year is divisible by 400. In 400 years equinox shifts by almost 6 days, and it can’t be compensated by adding 1 day surely.

Tushar ji, I am only making introduction to Jyotisha videos, not actual Astrology ones. I want people to know ki yeh kya cheez hai. I will be making ones on ancients texts of Jyotisha and about the panchang and it s uses , subjects like that which simple people like you and me can use everyday. If you have any particular subject of interest please suggest. I will look into it.

Madam, I recently watched Nilesh Oak's videos and found out that our Hindu sidereal calendar ia out of sync with Gregorian calendar because we use Ashwini as the first nakshatra of the Year. This was the case 2000 years ago but now it needs to be corrected. The New year which is Chaitra Suddha Pratipada should begin with Uttara Bhadra nakshtra. All lunar months will move back by one gregorian month. Can you give your opinion on this?

@@tripurakota8746 truly speaking I m not that knowledgeable. As far as I know, Gregorian also has errors. So we need to understand that Tropical calendars are for seasons and equinoxes. Ayanamsa calculations are supposed to correct the precession seen in the tropical calendar. But, since the Earth ‘s wobble and rotation are constantly changing, these correction techniques also need regular updation. I don t know who does that or if anyone does that at all today. You need to check in astrology circles for that information. As for your question, I too watch his videos. His lectures are fascinating but in some cases his theories have also been proved wrong. So, I cannot say if his theory is right or wrong, only experts in the field can. 🙏🏽

His theory seems very scientific and logical to me. There are four cardinal points. Which point should be used as a reference for the New Year? If we want to use Spring Equinox, we need to understand that it used to happen when the Sun entered Ashwini nakshatra. But due to Earth's wobble, there is a shift of a nakshatra every 1000 years which means today, the Spring Equinox happens at Uttara Bhadrapada. We all need to update all calendars, don't you think? It is very silly celebrating Jan 14th and April 14th which have no connection to the real astronomical position. The greatness of our calendar was in the fact that it depicted the true position of the sky as opposed to the Gregorian calendar which just has an arbitrary starting point of Jan 1st.

@@tripurakota8746 I agree corrections are required. I also believe it is import to use both Sayana and Nirayana, each serves a specific purpose. And the difference between the 2 if calibrated properly is supposed to give the correct date of equinoxes. I hope the new generation like you get qualified enough to bring about such corrections which can convince all the different styles of Jyotisha practitioners. We do have a rich legacy, unfortunately the correct usages have gotten lost, now they need to be revived or re-invented🙏🏽

Ma'am I mean does the Gregorian calendar match the seasons? January February will be winter forever?
@VedikHeritage
@VedikHeritage Жыл бұрын
@@chandanadhikari8589 No, the Earth's movements are not consisitent and the tropical year is getting shorter. It is moving towards 365.24 and not .25. This means more adjustments will be required in the Gregorian calendar too, to stop the precession of equinoxes in future dates. But it is still a young calendar and we will not see drastic changes in the immediate future. If you are interested, please research it online.
