கட்டை குத்து முறை
The Madras terrace roofing / கட்டை குத்து முறை is a traditional roof building technique using handmade ‘achikal’ brick, wood and lime plaster. The word ‘achi’ regionally means ‘half’ therefore this locally produced ‘achikal’ brick is essentially a half brick, in terms of thickness.
The system is commonly used for small spans, where wooden beams are laid at intervals of less than 45cm. The next layer consists of masonry laid on edge, across in a diagonal fashion, held together with lime plaster. The design is an interpretation of basic traditional architectural patterns to suit modern needs, while searching for a ‘timeless’ architecture which is beyond the ‘new’ and ‘inventive’.

உண்மையான பதிவு.. மெக்சிகேn வி லும் நமது முறை வீடுகள் உண்டு. மர வேலைபாடு இது மாதிரி நூணுக்கம் இல்லை. பல நாடுகளில் அங்கே இடைக்கும் மூல பொருள்களை கொண்டு வீடுகள் அக்காலத்தில் கட்டியுள்ளார்கள். மேலநாடுகளிலும் நம்மை விட பழைமையான வீடுகள் ஏராளம் உள்ளன. நம் பழைய வீடுகளை இடித்து பழைமையை அழித்தது நாம் தாம். பின்பு நமது பெருமை என மார்தட்டுவதும் நாம் தாம். எங்கள் வீடு இன்றும் பழமை மாறாமல் காத்து வருகிறோம். பழமை பழமை என பேசுவது பழமையை வீணடித்த நகரவாசி மட்டுமே. பேசுபவர்கள் கடைபிடிப்பது கடினம். ேபசாமல் பழமையை கடைபிடிப்பர் பலபேர்

Really this type of roofing is strong and good for the health of residents. According to area no of masons will be engaged and all will sit in line diagonally. Work will be started with a small pooja in the Northeast corner leaving a small opening in that corner. The work has to be completed before sunset and the gap will be closed left in the Northeast corner. There were experts till 1965. But nowadays I don't think there are people to do this type of work.

Hello brother, If you want to avoid 100% heat..use Water proofing heat resistant as first layer, then lime brick jelly as second layer...also clay tile as third layer .... incase of economical use heat resistant paint with clay tile made of brick lime mortar

பாரம்பரிய கட்டிட கலைஞர்களாகிய உங்களுக்கு மிக்க நன்றி.எங்கள் வீடும் கட்டை கல்குத்தி வீடுதான், ஆனால் நாங்கள் மேல்தளத்தில் இன்னும் ஒரு ரூம் கட்டும் போது பழைய மேல் (கட்டை கல்குத்தி) தளம் ஏதும் பாதிப்பு ஏற்படுமா அண்ணா.

Sir I am from Odisha and very interested in adopting natural building technique and making my house using earth. I am quite impressed by the old age madras roofing method. I have been watching many videos on this technique but want to understand about the it's additives jaggery + kadukkai added to lime + sand mixture for final mortar preparation. Great to know that brother. Mangesh, could u guide me roughly how the lime mortar can be prepared. I am curious to know the jaggery and kadukkai seed additives. Is it fermented together before adding to lime sand mixture or added together from before. Awaiting your reply. I am from Odisha and also interested in building my house using natural building method. Love from Odisha. You are lucky to experience living in the old Madras roofed house :)
