I have heard this song sung many times by many artists, but never, ever like K D Lang. First time I heard it, I kept going back again and again. I couldn't stop listening. This is certainly a good version but the one at The Logies May 2010 on KZfaq is simply amazing. It's a must watch.

k.d. Lang slips under a lot of people's radar and isn't 'reacted' to very much. Her album Ingenue is one of my favorites and one of those rare records where I like everything on it.

I for a long time preferred the Pentatonix version, but got to say, the two live performances on YT, this one and the one for the Juno Awards just knocked me to my knees. The wail of her voice, so perfect. There is no better rendition.

K.D. Lang and L. Cohen are both fellow Canadians of mine that I have followed for years and Am so proud of. You need to listen to Leonard doing this song live in Berlin or London. Also her single from her album Ingenue , Constant Craving where she got the Grammy that year for Best Female Pop Vocalist. I have seen her twice in concert and she was just stunning. What a voice!

k.d. has such incredible range. I love this version best. Cohen has a very different style that’s more ironic and kind of low key, I still like it, too.

I like the Juno(?) version better. The one where she's barefoot. She even released it as a single so you can stream it places like Spotify.

I was a pretty big KD Lang fan when she broke and I bought whatever that CD was at the time that was so popular. Just talented Beyond belief. You should hear a cover Patsy Cline, she's got the perfect voice for it and she understands the source material so well. I'm thinking of that song called, three cigarettes in an ashtray. I think it would be fascinating for you to go find Patsy Cline doing it which I don't even know when that would have been from maybe the 1950s? And by the way she died way too early. And then right after, go listen to the KD Lang version and the audio is probably fine but I think the official music video kind of sets up the scene or it's after hours at a bar or something at a table with a cigarette smoldering in the ashtray or something. But at any rate it's a fantastic song to start with and it was a huge hit for Patsy Cline but when I heard KD Lang do it, I was just blown away and I listened to it over and over. I know you would love it. And you might well like Patsy Cline a lot too although it's from just such a different era a long time ago. But anyway I remember hearing this and I had no idea until watching this reaction that that was an opening act at the olympics, wow! And just for context you should know that it's too bad because she broke really big really fast because she was such an amazing singer but then she also came out as being gay and the country music world did not treat her kindly even though that was her genre. And even though she was knocking the hell out of Patsy Cline who was one of the biggest darlings of the traditional country music world. It almost seemed to me that in response she started presenting as even more Butch and even in these photos you can tell she's wearing huge shoulder pads and stuff and not trying to look particularly glamorous because I don't think she appreciated what was happening by a group that she thought she was a part of their community. But screw all that, she is just so damn talented and her singing gave me goosebumps as well and actually made my allergies act up a little bit. Just phenomenal beyond belief.

KD Lang is a force of nature, and absolute beast of a singer. I've loved her since she sang country with the lady legends of country music.

This is one of the few that are as good as the cover, and maybe even better in some ways. Jeff Buckley has another very soulful cover worth the listen. I've dreamt of hanging out, and having a brew, with Leonard, but never KD, so I'm partial. Such thick black hair. Maybe he will visit you in a dream. As a David and philosopher-king I like to think the song was written with me in mind. I needed a quirk.

Jeff Buckley put this song out for the world with his version, which is indeed great, but for me, you have to go to the source, the master himself. MY favorite version is from the Live in London concert of 2008. (I think) The band is superb, the backing singers heavenly, and the great Leonard brings it with tremendous passion and soul.

I had never heard K.D. Lang's version before and it is very nice. Haven't heard the Cohen original but in bits and pieces but I REALLY like the Pentatonix version the best.
