Karl Kämpf (1874 - 1950) was a German composer of the late Romantic and early 20th-Century eras. Much of his output was for harmonium as well as vocal music. For cello, he composed a Legende (Op. 31) and a set of 3 pieces called Faschings-Szenen (Op.44, Carnival Scenes). The movements include Geständnis (Confession), Andalusian Serenade, and Jongleur (Juggler). The Serenade uses flamenco guitar-style strumming. This piece was brought to America in 1921 by the cellist Joseph Press but was soon forgotten after Press’s sudden death in 1924.
