I like the composition but I would suggest giving some of the melody to the other cellists, because playing harmony the whole piece gets boring easily.

Beautiful : the same delightfully unpredictable melodic and harmonic contours as in his pieces for cello and piano. The slow movement for a cello concerto he never wrote?

It's amazing (I found this honestly watching EVERY video of d960 interpretazion of the II movement) I arrived to listen to "indie" unprofessional versions hoping there is one that I could say is good enough.

Interesting work by this academic composer, usually mentioned briefly as a classmate of Charles Ives, then dismissed as a conservative. I'd love to hear more of him. This work shows he was clearly writing 20th century neo-classic music. This is the first recording I've been able to find of his music. Thanks for this.

Thank you for listening to our recording! All 3 poems (Op. 97) are beautiful works. I wouldn't say that Smith's works are too much more conservative than early Barber. Smith's music is similar to John Duke and Roger Quilter. Often, we compare older American composers to Copland and Bernstein. But that's like comparing Rachmaninov and Richard Strauss to Stravinsky and Shostakovich.

Very interesting, Yuriy. Did Servais invent all of these techniques, or sometimes borrow from violinists?
@maestroukr
@maestroukr 4 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say that he invented them. I'm hard-pressed to find more than a couple of these techniques in the music of Franchomme, Romberg, Dotzauer, et al. Servais enjoyed doing these techniques and it shows in his music. I think of them more like guitar, sax, or drum riffs. I can't say that he borrowed too much from violinists, maybe a couple from Paganini. I see Hubert Leonard, Vieuxtemps and Wieniawski borrowing the mentioned techniques from Servais.

This song is called "Iavnana" by Zacharia Paliashvili. The things we take today for folk music were actually popular songs of the day that had known composers.

Beautiful performance, bravo e brava. It's very hard to find examples of the AEA R88A that aren't dingy cladded rooms with a sweaty drummer 'whacking the tubs'. I've used this mic for a while now, and I have to say it's my favourite. What a gift to be able to boost the highs without the hassle of overbearing noise.

Thank you! I know what you mean about finding "classical" samples of R88A. The late Thom Moore turned me on to this mic when only the prototype was available. Thom used it on the 2012 Lev Aronson project where one of my works is track 2.
