So hi, a bit more info on DprIan. Yes, he talks about mental health but for Ian it's a little bit more personal than that. Ian suffers from DID (dissociative identity disorder) and Bipolar which includes manic highs and depressive lows. in the 1st mv, Ian wrote this to introduce his alter Mito (the guy with one white eye) and it was the first time seeing his other personality in real life. this was a way for him to accept Mito and he struggled a lot in hiding his disorders. Mito typically has one eye, appears in black and white, has a deep voice that is distorted at times and associated with blood. He reps the Depressive lows Ian has and protects him from major trauma and pain. musically, Mito often references his work with his deep voice calling out his name and orchestral influences, so when he takes over, that's his go to style of music. in the 2nd mv, Ian writes about his experience with a deep love he had. the relationship failed because of his struggle with Mito, who also loved the girl, and, in the end, he couldn't handle himself and her. both he and Mito loved her, so it was a big blow to lose her. as you go on with the lore, Ian introduces more personalities such as Mr. Insanity who is very colourful like a clown and reps the manic highs. he is very dangerous as he is reckless and too out there as opposed to Mito. Stylistically, Mr. Insanity goes with a more Pop/Funk/ Eletro influence. When writing his music or shooting his mvs, Ian typically does most himself but sometimes either Mito or Mr. Insanity take over and finish it by themselves. There's so much more but this is the best way to compile it all. Moving forward you will see a lot of Mito, Ian and Mr. Insanity along the journey but part one is about Mito's intro and the part two is Mr. Insanity's intro.

MIITO Movie is a must!!

Hey! Loved your reaction, here I’m going to explain them. Ian is making a storyline based on his life dealing with bipolar disorder type I and DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder). There are three main "characters" in this storyline: Mito, Mr Insanity and The Hybrid. His first two albums focused on Mito while his most recent one 'Dear Insanity' focused on Mr Insanity and that's why they're so distinct. I’ll only talk about Mito here since in these songs he was the only one already introduced. These aren't just characters, they are real people that have a mind of their own called "alters" (short for alternate state of consciousness) and that he coexists with. DID. In DID there's more than one person living in the same body with different memories, voice tone, body language, beliefs, motives, etc. DID stems from severe and/or repeated early childhood trauma (typically before five to ten years old) and the child fragments the mind so the "new person" can deal with the trauma and not the child otherwise it would be unbearable. That person was Mito. That way the child's mind can't fully integrate into one whole identity and instead it becomes multiple. Someone with DID only knows this mechanism to cope with trauma: to disassociate and become someone else. So they unconsciously switch between identities as they are exposed to stress and also more identities can be formed throughout their lives. Mito (the acronym for Moodswings In This Order) is the "protector alter" since he was created by the mind to deal with any trauma and to be the one who remembers them so Ian can forget it. Mito is is represented in MVs by wearing black, with a deep voice, missing an eye because of white contact lenses and wearing a ring with an eyeball. Ian is the prominent identity, the one who stays the longest in the body (called the "host"). In very stressful situations Ian blacks out and Mito takes control of the mind in order to protect him (he's the one "fronting" ps. there's also cofronting meaning more than one alter in control at the same time.) Ian then will come back hours, days, weeks later (the longest that it has been was a month) not remembering anything that was said or done. Basically his life has been lived and he doesn't know how. In the so Beautiful' the into says: “Before I change again (before he switches to Mito again) Remind me of the times when I still remembered. (Talking about the memory gaps) The black and white scenes are all Mito. It was the first time that he switched on camera. Ian had a black out and when he came back he asked "When are the cameras going to start rolling?" and the camera operator answered "We have already done 3 takes of it". Ian has no recollection of filming these scenes. He said it was hard to edit these scenes and see Mito for the first time. There were some scenes that he couldn't leave in. This song is about how who we perceive as monsters can also be the most beautiful, talking about mental health stigma. That's why the MV feels like a werewolf transformation it's meant to represent his DID switches. He often mentioned 'wolves' in his lyrics. About Nerves he talks in third person a few times throughout the song and at the end he says “I loved you, he loved you” and it cuts to a black and white scene with him with only one eye, so Mito. Implying that they both her but it’s unclear who she loved. Keep up with the Ian reaction guys!

You guys should do a deep dive of Ian. But with the deep dive you should do some research of him also. Because what he goes through is important to know with his music and his story telling :) once you know what he goes through his mucus and videos make so much sense. All I will really say is yes he is a huge advocate for mental health. Christian aka Ian he has bipolar and what’s called DID. And he geniusly is able to put that within his music and videos. But yeah do a deep dive. Learn more about him. He does have a small documentary where he talks about his music and songs and process and he touches a little on his story also. Great reaction guys :) I hope to see you react to him again. He’s amazing. He’s also one that you should react to the songs in order of release also. So if you look up the release dates so beautiful is actually first but I do love when people react to nerves with so beautiful for me it just goes well. :)

Remember when you see him in black and white or red with one white eye it is his alternate personality Mito. The end of nerves he says I really loved you, he loved you, loved you… the “he” is Mito.

i think i already said this through discord but i really recommend the Mito movie part 1!! it’s a highlight medley of almost 8 minutes from one of his albums! i personally think it’s his best music video in terms of visuals and meaning (too long to type here tbh…)! also the four songs in it have a variety of sounds so maybe jose will like them more 👀 love the reaction btw!! didn’t expect to start with his first solo lol

As you can see, DPR Ian is an incredibly fascinating, incredibly talented, complex and intriguing artist. I absolutely adore everything about him. I'll try really hard to summarize Ian as much as I can but I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY suggest watching his interviews with Zach Sang, JREKML (2 parts) and his incredible in depth interview with a fan called SayWhatReacts. They are definitely MUST WATCH content to truly understand Ian and his mv's. But I digress... --DPR Ian (pronounced eee-an not eye-an) aka Christian Yu --Korean Australian former kpop artist of the group C-Clown --cofounded DPR (Dream Prefect Regime- an independent, multi-genre music and video group) with DPR LIVE, DPR CREAM, DPR REM (REM left and now they've added DPR ARTIC). CL is a female artist that collabs with them as well. --After C-Clown disbanded, Ian became an mv director for artists like BIGBANG'S Taeyang, LOCO, iKON's Bobby, Winner's Mino etc. And recently directed and starred in IU's mv "Shopper". Now he's creating his own music as well to tell his story. --Ian writes, composes, produces his own music and edits his own music videos which blows my freaking mind! --Ian lives with Bipolar 1 Disorder and Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder) --Ian has shared 2 of his "alters" aka other personalities with us. --"MITO" is what he named his personality when he's "dipping" or in his manic low state. Not me just watching a whole 2 hr interview of his and then I see this. You’re gonna love him! I’ve never been so fascinated and inspired by an artist before because that’s exactly what he is he makes art. You should do a deep dive into the lore he puts into his videos and especially the mito movie that he’s working an a part 2 for. My advice is to go in order since everything is connected. If you learn abt his background and who he is it will all click. He directs and edits his own mvs along with his amazing team. He also writes and produces. The man is just insanely talented and such a genuine great humble person. I admire him sm and how open and honest he is with his fans and just the public in general. I couldn't even tell you which songs are the best ones to check out because all of them are great. Though "Don't Go Insane" is the most famous one, my personal favorite is "No Blueberries". He was the visual art director for DPR for years before deciding to do his own music. Chris bangchan the leader of stray kids is a huge fan and used to play his songs on his KZfaq show called "chans room" the last little snippet of music at the end was from the song "No Blueberries"

Ian literally said that in the first mv "So Beautiful" he was not there for the black and white parts... it was MILO. I guess you can say that video was MILO's debut to the world. He said that this was the first time he had shown MILO and was completely unaware this happen until he came back and was surprised and freaked when his staff told him they already shot the scene. He watched was shot and knew it was his other half, MILO, but still shocked.
