Northern California Káruk artist Brian Tripp (BDT), filmed in 2016 at his home in Orleans, California, sings the Káruk "Luck Song" (sometimes also called "Gambling Song"). With Káruk language teacher Frank Thom, and others.
This video is part of a series that features Káruk and other Northern California Klamath River Native culture bearers and cultural representatives.
Inspired by Káruk medicine man Charlie "Red Hawk" Thom and filmed by John Veltri, the series - and more information - may be seen on www.walking-backwards.com

Thank you. Did my Family Practice rotation at the Happy Camp clinic in 1994 and met Charlie Thom then. Nice to see some of his family. Walk in Spirit.

Cool, My grandpa was the milkman at Angels camp in the 1920s. He was a prospector, my dad went up there in the summers with him. My dad said there was a few times they had trout for breakfast lunch and dinner.

I've been going to the Klamath and the Trinity since I was very young. I was kind of on the other side of the fence from my parents who had a ski boat along with our neighbors. They were excited about Trinity lake. As a kid I identified with the hoopa's cause.

@@karendurant4981 Nice history. Trout is good anytime especially if one hasn't had it for some time. Wild onions and sugar pine nuts sure tops it off well. Some used trout soup to increase lactation for moms. Trout's a good source of thiamine.

This is so beautiful. I wish that I knew the words that were being sung, but then I realize that it really is about the spirit... and I get that! What a gift you have given us... thank you!
