Even from his limited information, it's very clear that the two of them know each other (eg. Reno referring to Kafka as "senpai"). Also, apparently, Kafka can now generate either energy barriers or shockwaves, as we saw when he blocked that massive attack.

I find it mad impressive that kafka is able to dodge all the vice captain attacks while injured and on top of that he hasn't even gotten a breather from the last fight where it looked like he was going all out like you can see he's tired right after dodging all of his attacks and it's prob because he hasn't used his kaiju form alot so far atleast that's my speculation
