I believe the Kaiju numbers only reference exceptionally strong Kaiju (fortitude 8 or greater) and the order they appear/are found. Kaiju #9 is named that because they didn't know about him until _after_ Kafka. Haven't found the right search term to confirm that, I'll have to double check the manga.

Kaiju that gets a number just means that it has attracted the attention of the defence force in some way or another, they assign a number to them because they're a big deal. Kafka is the eight one, in the past there have been seven before him, and now one after him. In this case Kafka is stronger, yes, but not because he is No. 8. Fortitudes tell the power level. Sorry for this long explanation, awesome reaction. :D

I think the numbers thing works for kaiju who are the most powerful of their kind. I think these kaiju are numbered based on the time their discovered

The number for each kaiju (up until 9) were the order of their appearance. It is said on the news when they announce Kafka as Kaiju No 8. And also they only knew Kafka is strong when he release his newfound power at 9.8. What i understand for now is that Kafka kaiju is the new one humanity has found. That Honju or Yoju must probably has their own number during their debut appearance to human world

one of the things i like about anime is their use of symbols. my guess is that the reason why Kafka is called Kaiju No. 8 is because the number 8 represents the Morbius strip (symbol of infinity) which means the author is telling us that Kafka, in time, will become infinitely strong in the future

Kaiju numbers only have to deal with the order they were discovered. While all numbered ones are strong and OP, it’s kinda hard to say which is the strongest. I can’t wait till they introduce more of them so I can explain things better without spoilers lol.

fyi he's just called kaiju no. 8 because he's the 8th kaiju that was reported in that year. as in 8th like full on high power kaiju, not the general term that could include stuff like Yoju and Honju. the counter resets in the following year. don't ask me how it works if one lives into the next year idk

In episode 4, No. 9 revived a Honju worth Fortitude 6.4 (which needs a whole squadron of veteran Defense Officers) so it's safe to say that he's stronger than all the scrub Kaiju we've seen so far and almost as strong as Kafka, Hoshina and Mina. But with him saying that hes seen most of No.8's power, 9 will definitely return stronger than last time. Maybe for the finale perhaps? Either way, awesome reaction Mr Michael. My little brother has the same expression when the episodes end. That's how you know that this anime is a blast.

As a manga reader, the true war is just about to happen. Kafka's biggest mistake is letting kaiju 9 get away.

Someone called Hoshina the Levi of this show. I have no idea how accurate that is overall, but for now, Kafka has to run, or someone will have to come in and stop the fight. With his current level of experience, I don't think Kafka could win, even if he wanted to actually hurt Hoshina. Also, the music in this show is fire. It makes it impossible to not be hyped up. Hype lvl 100% ;) On another note: Shouldn't your next Frieren video come out yesterday?
