kakashi isnt weak, just that Kishimoto boost Naruto, Sasuke and all their opponents to ridiculous level, we all keep forgetting kakashi is handling the most talented people of the century

Kakashi to me will always be one of the coolest teachers I have ever seen in fiction.

Kakashi was the real main character the whole time.

Makes sense. Chakra is a combination of physical and spiritual energies. He was physically strong but his spirit was weak. So many deaths (his dad, his sensei and his comrades) crumbled his soul. Once all his spiritual blocks were gone, he became better string ninja.

Honestly, I don’t see any of the power scaling as a plot hole. In fact, it ties back into one of the first episodes where we learn about chakra. The physical AND mental energies combine to form chakra. As the story continues, Kakashi’s physical energies remain constant while his mental slowly increase. His mental health increases more and more until he reconciled with his father, the source of his mental trauma. Thus, after the pain fight, he would obviously be much more powerful.

I didn’t think it was possible to appreciate this series more than I already do, but this video just made that happen.

Kakashi was always my favorite character in Naruto and the fact that I'm finding more stuff I never knew just strengthens that.

the thing about Kakashi fights is he almost always has a handicap. Seems like every fight hes tasked with protecting his weaker comrads. its rare he had a legit 1v1 fight with 0 distractions

If psychologists were a thing in the world of Naruto, the entire plot would have resolved as early as the first Arc.

You said that Kakashi got over his father and Obito trauma, but you could also say that Kakashi was slowly getting over his sensei, Minato's death bit by bit throughout multiple points in the story due to Naruto's presence . In the flashback/filler, after refusing to lead multiple teams due to lack of teamwork. He has a slight interest in leading team 7 since one of the genin is Minato's son. He briefly sees Minato when training Naruto in helping him learn wind style rasen shuriken, after dying and seeing his own father Kakashi is later told by Naruto that Naruto saw the 4th hokage within his own mind when he was losing control of the nine tails power with Kakashi slyly saying that he knew the 4th hokage was Naruto's dad. Kakashi again briefly thinks he sees Minato in Naruto's place when fighting Obito's six paths tailed beats, and later Minato gets brought back to life as a edo to help Naruto and Kakashi fight the bad guys. So since Kakashi kept failing to help and/or protect people he knew prior to the start of 1st episode which Sasuke later joined as the group of people he thought he failed, he was putting more effort bit by bit in Naruto's development since he was similar to Obito as both valued friends and team work. You could also say that since Kakashi's moral was growing over time Obito's moral was getting weaker since after the real Madara was brought back to life and that Obito's mask broke, during the battle Obito was facing more and more of his past ending with him losing to Naruto and Sasuke since the last attack Obitio made was using the sword of nunoboko; a sword literally powered by his own force of will to which Obito was slowing lossing more and more of. Makes slightly more sense why a piece of shit named black zetsu had to back stab Madara since Madara not only was more powerful than Obitio, but also had far more resolve to carry out his plan.

I love it when nux actually gets serious

I always read Kakashi's reaction and developed philosophy after his father's death, not so much as disgust, but more like a sense of absolute betrayal. In the origin episodes, we can see he really looked up to Sakumo - so when the village turned agaist his father, and by extention Kakashi, one of the only people, and the most important to boot, that could explain and validate Sakumo's actions to Kakashi was the man himself... then Sakumo shuts down and commits suicide, leaving his child alone, essencially validating the villagers point of view. And kakashi, no matter how mature, was still a child that didn't really understand all his father was going through... he ended up taking away, from this experience, the very worst lesson - and it was a lesson he learned too well - especially when the village's stance was to ignore the problem or, even worse, reenforce this prespective. So yeah, Kakashi is right from the outset a very trouble and hurt character. "Abandoned" by his father, abandoned (essencially betrayed) by the village, and with all that came after add to that PTSD, survivers guilt and depression, probably some form of suicidal ideation and possibly dissociation... Then, they take away one of the pillars he was holding onto (forcing him to leave ANBU and his duty, without putting him in therapy - REALLY!! - a bunch of characters in naruto need therapy and they even have a clan that would be perfect to help with that - WTF?), and he is confronted with his past in the form of his genin team. Kakashi's mental health at this point should be really low, even if he doesn't overtly show it. And it is an imbalance that should really translate both to the spirituality of shinobi techniques and chakra usage but also to the physicality of it (he would never really let himself go that way, but even physicaly he wouldn't be at his best). All this just to agree with you that kakashi is a really interesting and for me, the most nuanced character in the show, and thank you for a great video.

Kakashi is better with the Sharingan than 99.99% of Uchihas.

Kakashi's mind is only interesting because he's probably the only Hokage that doesn't a connection to Hashirama or his cells. But knowing how the world of Naruto works, the connection is there somewhere.

As someone who might actually be going through a bit of depression...it’s so true how much weight your past mistakes and regrets put on you. I never feel 100%, I never feel worthy and I never feel up to do anything. For the most part the heavy burden takes so much away from the person you really are and thanks to this video, I’m starting to understand the effects of it...it’s now a matter of what I need to do to be at peace with my past and move forward. Man Kakashi's story is so sad. He's the man who lost everything. He first lost his father than when he finally opens up to his friend he lost him Obito... Then he killed his lover. Then he got paired up with team seven who were always reminders of his past. Then when he became Hokage, he found a new lover that he could never be with due to her being a fugitive. Kakashi is my favorite character because even with all of the bad things that happened to him he always perceived no matter what.

To add to his futility complex. In the kakashi filler arc, it's shows his complex is further amplified in his inablity to prevent Itachi from turning (in his mind). And he couldn't prevent the death of his sensei Minato or his wife. This made him think he wasn't even too good of an anbu since he failed in two large ways.

Tbh, that's how I saw it. There are numerous, vivid problems in war arc but Kakashi's "random" power boost wasn't one of for me. By that point he'd completely gotten "it's not your fault"ed into hokage levels where he belonged.

Well, another thing that happened to kakashi in the war arc is that he got the boost from nine-tails. I’m talking about the first one, when he got thrown in the kamui. He explained to chikaku that he was able to use his abilities more and stronger. Then he also got the big power boost from nine-tails, and he could use his abilities EVEN MORE. A lot of people miss this detail and it explains a lot. So it’s even less a plot hole.

I had figured Kakashi was pretty severely depressed and the signs of ptsd are fairly overt but I never really thought about the futility complex aspect before. Now that you say that, it makes so much sense. If he fights with all he’s got and still can’t save those important to him, what’s the use of all that talent and skill Why even bother with personal connections if they’re all going to die and there’s nothing he can do about it? Better to just become a tool for the village. ah he’s so interesting thank you for enabling me. As an aside can I complain about Minato’s complete lack of anything to do with his students during the War arc, while they’re all out there resolving personal demons and also dying? He didn’t even ask where Obito was, or say goodbye- scratch that, even spare a glance at- Kakashi before he left. The fandom seems to paint him as Kakashi’s father figure after Sakumo and while I agree Kakashi probably saw him that way, he sure doesn’t act like he does. Sending your depressed student into anbu to wreak more death, yeah okay. Idk just kinda makes me sad that he just didn’t have anything to do with his two students clearly suffering, except to stop Kakashi from carrying out his resolve.

There's one thing about kakashi you didnt mention here. Idk if it only happened in the anime or not (cuz i only watched the anime at that point). It was a moment where kakashi and guy where talking about friendship and stuf and they were telilng a story about how they were once in a forest surrounded by enemies and had no more energy or mana left, but then out of the blue just to save guy, kakashi magically gets full mana again and proceeds to chidori every enemy to death. It sort of fits perfecty on how you were talking about how kakashi was just feeling useless and powerless rather than actually being that, in this case he to save his friends for a moment forgot about all is traumas and stopped restraining his power levels
