Eskrima, Arnis[1] and Kali are umbrella terms for the traditional martial arts of the Philippines ("Filipino Martial Arts," or FMA) that emphasize weapon-based fighting with sticks, knives and other bladed weapons, and various improvised weapons. It also includes hand-to-hand combat, joint locks, grappling and weapon disarming techniques
Eskrima in popular culture reflects the impact that this class of Filipino martial arts has made outside of the martial arts community. Eskrima, Arnis, and Kali emphasize weapon-based fighting with sticks, blades and improvised weapons.[1] Because of this training with live weapons, elements of Eskrima have made an impact in film, video games, television, and comic books. Eskrima is often used to train actors and stuntmen how to handle similar weapons for use in movies

It's so awesome to see Kali (FMA) making more and more appearances in movies and T.V. shows. It's about time we get this kind of recognition!

Kali is used on early 1500s on Philippines to protect our country from spain our greatest warrior LapuLapu used arnis/kali to protect us because Ferdinand Magelan tried to steal and raid Philippines and the first country is Cebu.

some people make jokes on FMA as most of them used sticks... just so anyone knows.. the sticks represents in a real fight to anything from a Bladed weapon, broken bottles, a pencil or even a dildo.. :)

Heck, even the sticks themselves can be deadly. Rattan sticks can easily break bones, crack skulls or perform various chokes, let alone heavy metal batons.

Xanatos712 I agree, though rattan sticks dont break bones, they actually crush bones which makes healing longer since the bones are not just broken they're pulverized into many pieces

ZERO LINE That should be common sense, like practicing kendo when you can also use similar techniques with baseball bats and maybe machetes. And the sticks her like a motherfucker. Not from experience, but from seeing shattered bones, and I ain't shattering mine.

How could you forget REDBELT? I mean even Dan Inosanto had a role in that one. Or SHARKY'S MACHINE, I admit Dan didn't do much in that one but it was one of the first films to feature the Balisong.

It looks great on screen, but people join the schools thinking they are going to look like this in a few months when thats not the case. This is like teaching dance...specifically for movies. Most people can't last when it comes to the real deal class. I don't care for the inasanto style for this same reason

People don't realize, when they train for movies, they don't do it like regular people do who only do it for 1 hour a week maybe 3. They will do huge crash courses for months doing it for 8 hours a day.

Theex pendable leo gaje of pekiti tirsia does not support the mix of martial arts because it grew from someone's consciousness. However, he support the idea of evolving any martial art itself according to every individual consciousness without borrowing techniques from other arts. For example the Gracie's created bjj because it is very comforting to the founder to learn how to exploit someone's weakness to the ground. Leo's Ptk had help new generation of tuhons translate weapons based systems to punches(although rarely), elbows, knees, kick techniques due to the idea of exploiting someone's angles of attack and distance depending on what weapon you are using even empty hands ;). In conclusion, it is more about formulating a new technique by using one art plus the practitioners consciousness, not borrowing techniques from others.

Theex pendable I had to applaud to ***** though for a smart comeback. The "watered" down is basically means , according to these issues of your comments, giving up the FMA people's consciousness to someone else consciousness like the FMA people's consciousness to yours. They are not stupid. They have practices for a reason--to validate techniques+to throw away or use it later the technique that have less credibility pro tempore. These comments of yours just helped me made a conclusion that in order to please your consciousness we are supposed to not have any answers to you less credible questions until you ran out of redundant words that you are forced to comment "you have no idea what you're talking about". here's the deal make a video that supports the issue that you always address to the every FUCKING FMA videos you trolled. Come on, smart man, if you're smart make a video at least for one day after I type these comments.

ajb7345 well first off, none of todays fma's like ptk, eskrima, arnis, sikaran etc are heavily based off other martial arts like spanish fencing or boxing, the only fma that isn't watered down is silat and kuntaw which is practiced by muslims down in mindinao and have nothing to dowith the rest of the philippines also I don't need to address my issue, because someone already did that for me filipinofightingsecretslive.com/2009/08/26/the-fallacy-of-empty-handed-fma/

I train arnis. I often can pick out techniques and movements that are very similar to what we do. Although that doesn't necessarily mean they are using arnis. Regardless of what you call it if the technique is the same in arnis as it is in jujitsu or wing chun it's still the same technique. So sure maybe it wasn't arnis you saw but sometimes its all the same
