Holy crap, I actually read The Awakening in my second semester at college and wrote a paper about it. I can't remember what I wrote, or if I even still have it on my computer. I'm definitely on the side of people who enjoyed Violet Evergarden. There were a few episodes that didn't entirely hit for me, but I especially loved the one about the writer who had a daughter, the soldier with his parents and betrothed/wife (can't remember), and the mom and her daughter. Those stories especially made me cry. Honestly, Violet herself wasn't even the biggest draw in the series for me, but it was nice watching her grow. It was a great way to tie together all of the otherwise episodic stories.

Violet Evergarden isn't situated in post-victorian (or post-WW1) age. She's got these advanced Anakin Skywalker prosthetic arms and in order to work that way they would need to be connected to her nervous system which implies the existence of advanced electronics, and yet, they use mechanical typewriters. Thus, it is very easy to conclude that this is a fantasy world the age and setting of which is irreconcilable with our world.

Huh, where do I begin?... First of all if not for you I would have never known the existence of this book, let alone that Violet Evergarden took inspiration from it. So thank you for the insight!Second, the whole 12 days of anime you did was a total blast! Every part of it was very enjoyable (What kind of downs are you talking about?! There weren't any kind of downs at all!) and you exceeded every bit of my expectation so Congratulation or something!Thirdly, and lastly as I said at the announcement video take some well deserved rest! It probably was a humongous task to deliver a video every single day and you did a wonderful job at that so have some rest. To end this comment. I didn't totally like the way some things were handled in Violet Evergarden, particularly the soundtrack and the beginning, but it's always nice to see content on it since it is a very interesting show. I could have also done without the misplaced war story elements at the end. Great video again, looking forward to 2019!
