The awesome Kamov Ka-32 C-GURI of VIH - Vancouver Island Helicopters is seen starting up its engines and taking off from CZNL in Nelson, British Columbia to begin a day of wildfire fighting on this hot, smoky day.
Love the mighty Kamov KA-32A11BC, one awesome Russian helicopter with the unique coaxial rotor design.

I remembered seeing these in the 1994 movie No Escape, starring Ray Liotta! Story took place the future 2020 LOL! The Producers wanted helicopters that looked futuristic and unfamiliar to most of the public. I knew the helicopter existed I just never seen one in operation till I saw this film. Truly a great machine! If you haven't seen this movie I highly recommended. I don't feel it got the credit it deserves when it came out!

Excellent! Although I'm not a 'God-nut relier' and more of a 'fixed-wing enjoyer', The Kamov lines of choppers are the most awesome of the pack, IMO. The safety and usefulness of the counter-rotating twin main rotor system provides yaw stability without adding a pesky tail rotor and its accompanying complicated and weighty parts. And all the slashy bits are way up in the air, so on the ground everyone can keep their heads. My favorite is the Ka-52. That thing is a beast. Thanks for this great video! It was a joy to wake up to!

Thanks so much! It's always a treat when the Kamov's are visiting CZNL, love their unique design. I'd love to see some of their other model in person. The Ka-52 does look like such a beast! Maybe that's one I wouldn't want to see unless it was on my side 😉

Great catch my friend! These Kamovs have such a unique design! There are a few in my area operated by military forces but I’ve not yet been lucky enough to spot them yet.

What a fantastic Sound and Video, Jesse 😍 👏👍👍👍👍👍👍 Unfortunately, no more Kamovs fly here in the Bavarian, Austrian and Swiss Alps. Unfortunately, Kamovs no longer fly here in the Alps. Due to the Ukraine war, Heliswiss can not easily obtain spare parts 😢

Superb one! Very entertaining to see one although the context (wildfires) is rather depressing. We have had some big wildfires here in Chile too and with them so came the Kamovs in action.

Amazing footage! I love watching the Kamovs doing engine tests at Victoria Airport... and that very unique startup sound. Also, when was this filmed?

Thanks so much! These unique Ka-32's are always so cool to see, love their design. I filmed this one in the summer of 2021, we had a couple of them based at CZNL for a week or two fighting some fires in the area.

I like Russian helicopters.Ka-32 , Ka-50 ,Mi-8 , Mi- 24 . Helicopters difficult to flying than airplanes right ? My boyfriend said it.He was pilot.

Unfortunately that's a big problem they're facing right now. They have been grounded since the war in Ukraine and the unavailability of parts.
