Great trail...hell on the bike. I will be in Grand Junction for the first time next week. Haven’t had to leave Durango to find trails but I want to ride the ribbon trail while I am in Grand Junction. I also want to do Monarch Crest this summer. Thanks for the videos and I like the feedback you give on the trail.

I was visiting GJ, Fruita and Montrose last September 2019 and I only hiked this trail. I parked at the trailhead and hiked up a ways to a fork and took a right. My intent was to get up to the point where you started it. The signage was not good because the right I took brought me through super narrow, trench like trail terrain where I was walking through super high and dense foliage. I eventually cleared onto a hunting camp then decided I should check my phone and see where I was. I was way off so then I back tracked to the fork and took the left tine, went up a ways, crossed streams and it seemed to take forever so I turned around and headed back to my car. To be honest, I hated this trail. It was a huge let down compared to the Ribbon, which I hiked twice, Horse Thief Bench, Mary's, Mack's Ridge, some stuff at 18 Road and Buzzard Gulch in Montrose. I have to say that the Ribbon was the most spectacular trail I've ever hiked in my life and I have hiked/trekked all over the world.
@OutdoorGold4 жыл бұрын
The Ribbon really is world class! Thanks for tuning in Julie!

Looks like a great area. Why not get a local group to do proper maintenance on the trail? Clear the corridor. Create nicks, proper bench, and proper slope in rough sections. Clean or even turnpike the rock gardens enough to make them passable.
@JenkinsB4 жыл бұрын
This would be awesome, but I bet the hikers and horse riders would throw a fit....
@OutdoorGold4 жыл бұрын
Endo, we are getting a new 6,000ft. descent trail within the next year or two, that will be Mtb specific. This really is a vintage 90s style rough ride type of trail
@endoalley6804 жыл бұрын
@@JenkinsB You really think hikers and equestrians like an eroded unkept trail?
@endoalley6804 жыл бұрын
@@OutdoorGold Yeah I did some trail work in Eagle county last summer with someone from Junction who has been working on the Plunge. Should be good. The USFS and BLM have prescripted guidelines for multi use trail specifications. Not just MTB specific trails. Provided a trail is part of the approved management plan for an area, it seems like the BLM and USFS are coming around and working with groups who are willing do trail maintenance and erosion mitigation. Of course you have to come up with a proposal and jump through all of the bureaucratic hoops before hand. There is a great variety of trails and geographical terrain in the area around Grand Junction. Hopefully more of it can be opened to mtb recreational use in the future. It would make for a great destination area for people to enjoy.

Great ride. I will be there in September to give it a shot along with Palisades and Ribbon Trail. Any other epic DH shuttles in the general area that I should do as well? PS: Has anyone ever told you that your voice is so much like Steve Carel? lol
@OutdoorGold Жыл бұрын
Need to work on my Steve Carel impersonation! Lol Kannah is a true backcountry gem, but in the Grand Valley, those are the main ones. Burro Down (WE) at 2 hours away is one of the greatest rides in the world in my opinion. It’s been a minute since I’ve been to the plunge, but it rides more downhill XC.

The difference in trails by region in this country is amazing. If you come to my local trails, the whole network looks like one of your “rock gardens” on an XC style trail. I was told when I first started “if you can ride here you can ride anywhere”, and the more I ride and watch other trails I believe it.
