CRESTED BUTTE, CO - Mountain biking the 403 trail in Crested Butte.
The 403 Trail was not high on my list of priorities for the Outdoor Gold CO Shred, but a short conversation was a rider at the parking lot for Dr. Park a boom for its stock. At his recommendation, he suggested to ride up Snodgrass, Washinton Gulch Road, and then to 403 and thats what I did.
Unlike Dr. Park, 403 was a much different trail. With dry conditions and weeks without rain, I found 403 to a be black diamond trail with double black diamond conditions. I had to set my speed to match conditions and the very unpredictable nature of this trail. There seemed to be many red herrings on the blind turns and it was hard to plan the next move. I did appreciate the steep and natural challenges this trail presented.
403 is too short, 401 is also too short. You should combine both 403 and 401 in the same ride. It would be a big day, but worth the effort.

It's nice to live vicariously through you with these trails that I'm not quite ready for. You make those turns look easy ! I have never been to Crested Butte but I'm about sold with all of the views. Nice work as always. Favorite color : blue.

Took my 16 year old daughter to Snodgrass last year, she'd never ridden a real mountain trail before but once we started the downhill stretch she was already asking when we could come back.

CO has the goods! In the grass is always greener mentality, Wyoming has the goods on steroids, at least western WY lol

Awesome trail. I was there last year and there was to much snow on doctor park or the other trails I wanted to ride but snodgrass did not disappoint. Attempted the snodgrass loop but got kinda lost and ran out of time.

I had always wondered if it was doable to do 403 into 401. This loop looks great, will definitely give it a go next time i'm in CO.

BlindstuffMTB I you were to take the loop going up scholfield, I think it ends up being 29 miles. Most of that being road of course.

How was the climb on this one compared to Dr. Park? Just as long and steep or more like trail 401? Loved this video, I need to do this one.

I thought upper 401 had a fun and fast trail, the lower part was not near as exciting as the upper.
