Let the billionaires pay for it not the over taxed residents.

Hot take: If half of the construction funds are public, 50% of all revenues should go to a public fund too.

The Miami Marlins stadium was $500 Million in bonds that ultimately cost around $2.5 BILLION. Its all a scam.

And they can't even draw over 5000 people per game average, actually shocking that money was spent.

In Pittsburgh Pennsylvania decades ago they wanted to build two new stadiums one for baseball of course and one for football of course. The three county area voted 72% against the building these stadiums but it didn't matter, they did it anyway. Remember lots of people have a vested interest in the perks that they get when something like this gets built. Not only do they get special treatment, special accommodations such as free food and not only for them but their families. The organizations that operate these ballfield that are really games for children played by men in costumes on fake grass. These professional sports teams are usually worth a billion or more so the rest is easy to figure out. I forgot to mention in Pittsburgh when they knocked down three River Stadium, they still owed $45 million on it . I think the same thing happened in Philadelphia.

You would shudder to “look under the hood” regarding Indianapolis stadiums. Meanwhile the roads are fucking pitiful throughout much of the state. So much for hosting that Super Bowl being such a boom.

You've got to be kidding me! Every seat sold, every hot dog, every beer and every parking spot generates more tax for the local economy with every event. With those items priced so incredibly high, how can the local government not make out like a bandit every time a game or other event is held there. Does the team own the stadium, or does the city? Neither the Chiefs nor the Bears own their stadium. They are tenants. You can argue the taxpayers get screwed when funding a new stadium, but the local governments don't. Taxpayers cover the cost of building, and the governments rake in the proceeds every time an event is held there.

Wonder if it's a classic case of let's ask for a crazy amount so the counter offer would look good for both sides even though Tax payers are still being had.

If the Bears ownership cannot afford the cost to build a stadium than sell the team to owners that can.

Man does that look beautiful. What’s wrong with people voting against things like this. The lakefront areas in Chicago around the museum campus are a gem in Chicago’s crown. They deserve to continue to be that and grown to be even nicer. I can’t imagine the Bears moving to the suburbs and that whole area by Soldier Field just becoming an abandoned area in limbo for decades. What a total waste if that happens and a black eye for the city.

I wish we had a mechanism to recall Mayor Johnson. I never imagined anyone could make me long for the days of Lori Lightfoot, but as bad as she was Johnson is worse. Here is a man with no talent for the job he currently holds and he is making a mess. I support many aspects of a progressive agenda but a person’s political ideology is no substitute for competency or talent and this Mayor has neither. No tax dollars for welfare to millionaires and billionaires!

There’s no way the bears would leave the Third largest metro in the US, Chicago realistically doesn’t need to fund any part of that stadium.

No more how people vote on a stadium project if the politicians ok it, it's getting built. Once a new stadium is completed and games are sold out no one will mention anything about the voters.

People are wasting their time complaining here, with the team putting up 2 billion of the 3.2 billion to build the new stadium this is almost a done deal. Complain all you want but the stadium will be built. Plus the rest of that money for tearing down Soldier Field and making it into a green space would be funded by the city anyway because the city owns Soldier Field and the land it's on.

Just because it was done before doesn't mean it should be done again. A lot of the controversy is due to the decades of data regarding the taxpayers' ROI (or lack thereof) we have nowadays compared to the past.
