at 8:43 , its not about neglecting the negative sign. -mVwR is torque of water stream. so torque on blade will be reaction of this torque i.e. +mVwR. that is why torque on the blade is +mVwR

I'm currently in the process of installing a kaplan turbine. 2m head and 80m3 litre second flow. Goal is 1.5kw to take me off grid. Issue is that the streams bed is well below the terrain level. At this point i think i have to build the penstock down the middle of the creek like an raised aqueduct.

Only a one small corecture: the casing is drawn heading the wrong direction, to make water spin like shown on the picture the casing should be coiled clockwise but thanks for this good video
@Dr.AmitMandal7 жыл бұрын
Good question , Actually in theory it would not effect the performance because 1) The casing size is considered very big. 2) The flow of fluid toward the rotor is in radial direction first .The significant velocity starts just at the outer periphery of the the guide vane toward the rotor radially .This is because before entering the guide vanes , the fluid has only pressure head with it. 3) The significant whirl starts when the fluid leaves the guide vanes and moves toward the rotor.

How to find total drag force over kaplan tubine
@karmagyatso65518 жыл бұрын
why are you not considering the losses ie; due to friction or some mechanical losses in this turbine? and what would be the efficiency if we consider the losses?

Very nice video. I have a question to you. Iam working on a project but have little knowledge of turbines. It would be very helpfull to know if its possible to increase the outflow velocity/pressure of a turbine (kaplan or francis). Do you think it is possible by changing the hub for example?

for this, check out my lecture on Draft tube

@@Dr.AmitMandal Thanks for your quick answer. I will check it out. The problem is that i am not an engineer but would like to know if you can release the outflow inside an enviroment of 2 or 3 bar under water. I understood that normal outflow pressure of a kaplan or francis turbine is 0,5 bar. Please correct me if iam wrong. For me its sometimes hard to understand if people talk about kinetic energy, velocity and pressure and so on. So i will watch the video now and try to understand :) But if you can help me find the answer if i can release the total outflow of a turbine in an enviroment of 2 or 3 bar outer pressure i would be very very pleased. Lets say i have to release the total outflow of the turbine about 10 or 20 meters under sealevel
@stofjes42042 жыл бұрын
Imagine you have a dam next to the sea. The dam will be on land but the turbine is 10 meter below the water (sea). You think it will be possible release the water into the sea?
@Dr.AmitMandal2 жыл бұрын
The inlet pressure of turbine has to me more than exit, thats the rule..
@stofjes42042 жыл бұрын
@@Dr.AmitMandal iam sorry i presented the wrong information to you. Imagine a river flows into the sea. At the end of the river i will install a pipe into the sea. The pipe has a length of 10 meters. The riverwater will flow into the pipe and fall 10 meters and enter the turbine. The turbine will be at the end of the pipe at 10 meters below sea level where the pressure is 2 bar. I really hope you can understand me :) You think that it will be possible to let the total water output flow out of the turbine into the sea at a depth of 10 meters?
