Nairobi's population currently stands at about 5 million people, out of this, 2.2 million live here, in the sprawling Kibera slums, where water, sanitation are a luxury that they can hardly afford. The United Nation Development Programme's Human Development Index ranks Kenya as being under developed and characterized by a large chunk of the population living below the poverty line.
