A small addition to your #1 tip about fist-making . . . . I definitely find that the more you tighten down your fist, the harder that fist becomes, and the harder it will hit, and the less it will hurt you. Of course you can't hold it maximally tight at all times, but just as you strike, do your best to make that fist an absolute rock and it will hit like a rock.

A tip: When you punch, draw your power from the ground. A good, well balanced position determines an effective outcome in your strikes.

I engage in a modified version of MMA training particularly for self-defense purposes and scenarios; but I'm not that confident with my punches, so I prefer to use power open-hand or palm strikes, and my kicks are also pretty good.

I’ve always been told to keep my wrist straight at all times. The new dojo I’m going to is telling me to bend my wrist when doing a high punch so my knuckles slat flat. Is this a good idea? It just seems like a good way way to break my wrist.

Awesome! Have mistakes with almost all the points... My thumb...my wrist (got hurt a lot, especially the left which is the weaker one ) ... The hikite hand : I can't pull back enough I think because of my wide shoulder blade or thick upper arm... It always seems like my elbow stands out... But I can't push it nearer to my body... Or should I force that? Appreciate if you could give some advice! Thank You!

I have a doubt. I started Shotokan and I was taught that the elbow should go behind your torso but due to poor shoulder extension (I'm working on it!) I can't take the elbows all the way back. Is it commonly taught that way?
