That's your perception as a Japanese person. My Japanese wife is the same. Loosening up would be a good advice. 😊

this proves that discipline are timeless. both parts of these videos are really helpful. as a kata enthusiast myself this helped me alot in improving my kata. Another thing that can be done which for me is quite effective is to record yourself while doing the Kata then have your checklist on upon re-watching it and tick those that mark that you think you excel and those that you think that requires improvement. As for me the hardest one to master is the breathing as there are tendencies even up until this point that I became too tensed and forgot about the breathing. This happens usually when I pressured myself learning the new kata or if I got frustrated trying to perfect the movement. Patience must be present as well for all it s worth.

We don't have an upward block. It's safer to move off line, and block laterally.

Is there a rule on which side in a blackbelt should the embroideries be positioned? Like where should the style/dojo embroidery be, on the left side or right? Thanks!

Watch Kajukenbo from Montreal, France and Spain (in particular Angel Garcia Soldado). You can also look for Fight Quest's Kakukenbo episode. It's pretty nice. Bare in mind that you'll only be scratching the surface though...

15:00 Well he's doing a body lock, or "bear hug," which is a wrestling move, but he's not doing it correctly. It's realistically, done as a submissions in a way that presses your shoulder into the opponent's sternum and solar plexus and compressing the ribs. More often it's done as a transition move, body control move, or a set up for a takedown. With is size advantage what I'd think he's doing is putting all of Frank's weight on the lumbar nerves of the lower back, which is pretty inefficient.

I practice muay thai and I for one never favored the palms out stance. I like to keep my hands in a more greco-roman boxing position. But yes you want to keep your shoulders up to maintain flexibility for the elbow strikes. I can tell you this, his clinch wasn't great. You can see he has the guy by the back of the neck, you always want to get them by the back of the head, not the neck. You want the other guy's neck to bend, it gives you some much more leverage you wouldn't believe it.

2:31 - main source of kime? But kime is not power, right? It's the tension of antagonist muscles at the end of the technique. Correct me if I'm wrong.

saying that taekwondo comes from shotokan is only partially true. It's true that General Choi was a shotokan black belt, but the main kwan that started making their own kata and was the main driving force for establishing taekwondo was Oh Do Kwan with Choi and Tae Hi Nam (who was a tangsudo and taekkyon specialist). Since it's very beginnings taekwondo was mainly focused around high kicks, so the stances were much higher than in shotokan and less grounded than in shotokan or okinawan karate to allow faster movement on one leg in a chambered position. I don't know if that style of moving around was adapted from Savate or from taekkyon but it's definitely not shotokan style of moving around. Main shotokan influence is obviously seen in how taekwondo (itf) is structured, with kihon, kata and kumite being main parts of it. General Choi loved shotokan for tools on training huge groups of people at the same time, for military purposes and he spent quite a few pages on that in his encyclopedia. And if we look at WT taekwondo then it's even further from shotokan. I have no clue what was their main influence, I'm not a big fan of their kata done in a very relaxed fashion

Which is the most softest karate styles in your opinion?
@richardrussell58074 күн бұрын
This is not correct, Ashihara was expelled from Kyokushin for 2 reason. 1) He diverted his teachings away from the Kyokushin curriculum. 2) He stepped down as branch chief of his local Kyokushin dojo. Basically they knew he was going to resign and start his own style so they kicked him out before he could. It had nothing to do with Mas Oyama's fear of him.
