Kareem Abdul-Jabbar receives the nation's highest civilian honor in the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Abdul-Jabbar is the NBA's all-time leading scorer who helped lead the Los Angeles Lakers to five championships and the Milwaukee Bucks to another. During his career, Abdul-Jabbar was a six-time NBA Most Valuable Player and a 19-time NBA All-Star. In addition to his legendary basketball career, Abdul-Jabbar has been an outspoken advocate for social justice.
About the NBA:
The NBA is the premier professional basketball league in the United States and Canada. The league is truly global, with games and programming in 215 countries and territories in 47 languages, as well as NBA rosters at the start of the 2016-17 season featuring a record 113 international players from a record 41 countries and territories. For the 2016-17 season, each of the league's 30 teams will play 82 regular-season games, followed by a postseason for those that qualify.

Kareem is NBA icon,saw him play at MSG in Nov 1989 when Lakers beat NY Knicks 113-99 on Kareem night.NY Knicks organization honored him for his greatness 20 years in NBA

Wilt Chamberlain caused a few rule changes as well. Opposing player saw him take a couple steps jump from the free throw line and dunk it down instead of shooting a free throw. Before he had a chance to ever do it in a game, they made a rule that your body could not cross the line
